Guest guest
Help, I awoke about a half an hour after falling asleep with cramping, (charlie horses) on the inner thighs. this lasted about 5 minutes with the spasms alternating between each leg. It was one of the most painful things I have experienced. Any ideas or suggestions? I do know that calf cramping is related to potassium depletion, could this be too? Guest guest
Vicki, I have suffered severaly from leg cramps post op over the past 5 years. To the point of ER 4 times. Each time they have not found any chemical problems at all. So I have left with no answers. But since it has happened so much, I have at least one theory. Everytime I have the cramps I have had a lack of quality sleep. There was a time when I was taking Ambien to help sleep. At one point they actually started backfiring, and causeing me to have very little sleep. BUT, within days of bad sleep, I started having cramps. I don't know if this is the answer, but it continues to prove true. -- Craig T Big-T and the Bada-Bings www.BigT-Music.com Muscle spasms Help, I awoke about a half an hour after falling asleep with cramping, (charlie horses) on the inner thighs. this lasted about 5 minutes with the spasms alternating between each leg. Guest guest
I, too, have muscle spasms in my calfs and thighs. Haven't had them in about a month, but the last time, I was half in/half out of bed and couldn't move for an hour I was in so much pain. I've spoken with my primary care physician, weight loss surgeon and those in my weight loss surgery support group meetings about this. My blood levels are great, I take all my vitamins, they don't know why I get them. No one else has ever had them with whom I've spoken, until now. Hurray! Someone I can identify with now. I'm not alone. I drink plenty of water, don't exercise, but do have problems sleeping. I have taken one benydryl at bedtime every night for the past 8 years to go to sleep because I have insomnia. The last time I had the cramps, I was working a convention and sleeping away from home in a hotel and I never get enough sleep then. Someone told me the next time it happens to breathe in and out into your hands, like breathing into a paper bag. Something about oxygen levels in your blood. Haven't had another episode since I heard that, so don't know if it works or not, but last time I was so miserable and scared to death, I would try anything the next time it happens. Guest guest
I have had problems with the leg & foot cramps on and off since surgery. By accident I found that if I lower my selenium dosage that the cramps stop. Don't know why it helps. Maybe the selenium blocks the potassium or calcium when it is increased, but it has worked for me. I ran out of selenium and the cramps stopped. I kept forgetting to pick any up so a month went by. Got my new supply and the cramps started within 3 days. Stopped the selenium and within 2 days the cramps were gone again. Just my experience. Hope it helps someone! Guest guest
Nope, I'm a proxy. I'm 33 months out and have lost 200 lbs. The cramps started about 9 months out. Been fighting it ever since. Reba in Auburn, AL > 1. , what dose of niacin did you take? > > 2.
