This year coming, I think it's in Boston.....<< I have no problem with Boston, but... The problem with being around the big medical conferences is that the hotel rates are astronomical. They block them out for 4-5 days on either side of the conference and based on the 10-12 large medical conferences I have been to (including one ASBS) the rates usually run from $140-200/night for a double room. And they are in the worthless fancy rooms with no usable stuff like a microwave. I'll take a mid-range Comfort Inn Suites, or a Days Inn Suites with a microwave or a kitchenette, or even an etended stay type place, as opposed to a fancy furniture place with small rooms and snazzy smelling saop and shampoo. I was talking to them about protein, and they would say, " oh, the nutritionist can talk to them about that. " Even when they knew I was a physician, they didn't care. It was really sad to me. All they wanted to do was " cut " the patient and send them on their way and get to the next patient. It didn't do anything to improve my longstanding (since medical school) opinion of surgeon's (as a general field). But you are difinitely correct, our party would be alot more fun! doc carolyn--- and I know there are exceptions to what I have said above, please don't flame me Homepage: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG Unsubscribe: mailto:Graduate-OSSG-unsubscribe

After all, you're one of the exceptions! It is sad, however, because I feel the same way you do about doctors in general. After having been overweight all my life, and then eventually, of course, morbidly obese, and being treated as if every ailment was because I was fat by so many medical " professionals, " my opinion of doctors is similar to some people's opinion of lawyers. I'm on so many lists that I can't remember, was it this list or another where one of our members was denied a Hep C test by an ignorant doctor that later turned out to be positive? Well, I've become totally intolerant of this crap in my old age (all of 50 ), so I go right to the top if I feel I've been treated poorly. I just filed a complaint against my insurance company to the NJ Dept. of Banking & Insurance because I can't get a straight answer out of them about my policy (deductible amount, what's covered, what's not, etc.), whether it's from a simple Rep or a Supervisor. So, because I have an Individual policy, I just said the h*ll with them, I'll just go to their bosses, so to speak. Anyway, I digress... I think we should invite the docs anyway. If they showed up, maybe they would learn by osmosis. LOL Ooooh, and we could have a big protein party! We could all chip in, and could ship a bunch of stuff out ahead of time, then Felicia (you out there???) could do her thing for those of us who missed her parties. in NJ

Guest guest
All the more reason for the the groundswell of patients to roll forth and form a lobbying organization to bring about change in medical care for MO patients, to lobby for anti-discriminatory practices in the workplace, to lobby for government sponsored research into the areas of concern for our health and welfare in general. There must be high goal standards for bariatric practice that are constructed to protect the health and welfare for the patients, not necessarily the advancement of business for surgeons and/or their protection. There is such an organization - The American Obesity Association (www.obesity.org). When the IRS started allowing deductions - that was AOA. When the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services is challenged about budgeting for research on obesity, etc., that is AOA. Consider supporting that already existing and active organization! Guest guest
, just remember you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. But in the case of inviting the docs, they may drink but still won't hear you. They go by what they learn from each other, not what they observe in life.
