Jerrie and Bob,

I have been taking Methadose and Neurontin. For a muscle relaxer I

take skelaxin. All of these are for pain and I have pain in the same

places that you mentioned. Hope this helps.

Love and gentle hugs,

Belinda

Jerrie,

You are very welcome. I have a pain doctor who handles all of my pain

medicines. Here in Georgia and I think in other places they want one

doctor to handle pain meds so that I can't go from doctor to doctor

and attain them. This sometimes leads to worse problems when this

happens. I am not sure if this is how your insurance wants it or not.

Just thought I would tell you just in case.

God bless,

Belinda

Jerrie:

I can share with some experience Terry has had in coping with chronic pain

from bursitis in the hip which is not related to her MSA. After along time

trying various traditional pain managers - Tylenol, etc - her doctor

finally prescribed Oxycontin which is a slow release narcotic. It took

some convincing of us by the doc to understand it is a legitimate narcotic

to use as long as it is properly managed.

As you may know, Oxycontin is a substance that can be used for personal

abuse by crushing the pills. The trick is to find the right dosage level

and time of day to take it and remain on a regular schedule. In Terry's

case, I give her once a day one before she gets up in the morning. She no

longer has any problem with the bursitis. If she waits to take it after

she gets up, the pain starts and she can not knock it down. It has been a

long time since she complained of any pain.

Hope this helps.

One thing you could check on with your doctor is Neurontin. I believe it is

what is working to take care of pain from neuropathy. Also I would get

really painful feelings from slight pressure etc. I think it is helping

that also.

Greetings M !

Glad to hear from you. You wondered if PT and/or orthodics can help.

Yes. It is my understanding the doing stretching exercise [the PT part

of the question] (a) helps keep the muscles as loose as possible

[reducing the stiff muscle feeling], (B) helps reduce cramping [a major

source of pain], and © helps keep the joints as flexible as possible

[again another source of pain].

As to the orthodics, yes. These help stabilize the feet and can help

compensate for weak ankles or any foot drop type of problem. I use

hiking boots as a simple substitute.

Great ideas, as usual, nancy m !!
