Guest guest
Hi , I live in Wyoming. I was diagnosed with AIH in 2001. I started being treated with prednisone. It brought my LFT levels down for three months and slowly they began to creep up again. Then, my doctor prescribed 6 MP. I was quite concerned especially after all that I had read about the drug. If you are worried about it and its side effects, don't be. Of course, your case is different than mine, but all of my fears were in vain. My hair did NOT fall out or even thin for that matter and I feel fine. I did not get sick. Because the 6-MP takes awhile to build up in your system, your doctor may increase your prednisone for about a month and then taper it off. I was placed on 50 mg 6-MP and 40 mg prednisone and then tapered down to 2.5 mg prednisone. That combo worked for six months, and now the levels are beginning to creep up again. Soooo, my doctor is now increasing my prednisone to 10 mg for two weeks. My second week is next week. I will have blood drawn on Friday. The treatment for AIH is so individual and at times experimental as far as the dosage goes. I hope all goes well with you. You will learn a lot from the support group. I certainly have! Guest guest
, I am on 6MP and prednisone. I was on 5 mg of prednisone. My doctor had decreased to 3 1/2 mg of prednisone, but then the rheumatologist increased it back to the 5 mg. Then, last week, I decreased it to 4 mg and am doing quite well! Don't understand WHY 1/2 mg would make that much difference, but it did, and with luck, maybe I could drop down lower eventually! 6MP, for me, works beautifully. I am very happy with it. Imuran and Cellcept made me so ill, I didn't want to live! Yuck for me! But, 6MP is great! Funny, how some people do great with one drug and not another! Good luck with your treatment. Debby [ ] New memeber Hi my name is and I live in NY. I have been recently diagnosed with AIH. I was always tired and not feeling well, so my doctor did tests for about a year and finally I was diagnosed. I felt like I was crazy. I have been on a low dosage of Prednisone since August starting at 20 mg, and I am still on them. Gradually I have been lowering the dosage and my doctor has tried to put me on Imuran twice and I have gotten very sick from it. So my ALT's and AST's have risen since I have only been on 5 mg of Prednisone and I have to try another medicine called MP6. Anyone know how that is? I hope this one sits well with me. This is one of the reason I have joined this group, to see how others feel with this illness. I get depressed sometimes from feeling so yucky and no one understands. I have a very crazy life I work full-time, part time and go to school, so I just thought a lot of this contributed to the way I was feeling. I have had one biopsy and hopefully will not have to have another. I thought it was very uncomfortable, the results were great though. I wish everyone well and I hope to meet a lot of great people that can relate to the way I feel. Thanks for listening and good luck to everyone also just beginning and learning. For the most part I have been fine an symptom free but over the past 3 months I have had several flareups that the doctors have had a difficult time controlling. Has this happened to anyone else?? I am stating to lose faith and become depressed as it seems like this illness is getting the best of me. I am trying to keep the faith but it is extremely hard when symptoms go away and return repeatedly. If anyone has any insight or experience as to what is happening, please let me know. Guest guest
I am currently on 30 mg of prdenisone and 150 mg of imuran. I hope to hear good news from my doc tomorrow. I will probably shoot back up to 40 mg because this flareup appears to be a tough one. I will keep you all posted most definately. Are there any little tips or tricks that you all know of such as diet or times of day to take medications that may prove useful in giving me an edge in this battle.MSN 8 helps ELIMINATE E-MAIL VIRUSES. Guest guest
Cameron.....welcome to the group! I may have missed it but how were you diagnosed? What are your symptoms and what is your treatment(s). How often do you get your blood drawn? Sory if you have already givenus this info, but it's easy to get get behind here and miss some posts. Don't give up... things will straighten out....this disease is very treatable. Are you seeing a hepatologist or at least a gastroentrologist? Pehaps you are not getting proper treatment.. Let us know the details. Glad to have you on board. love jerry
Guest guest
Hello Jerry, Yes I am seeing a great hepotologist and have been for the past 3 years. I am just having flareups and as you know it is a guessing game. I am currently on 20 mg prednisone and 150 mg imuran. I see the doc today, obvioulsy 20 mg is not enough for me now so I am guessing that he will hike me back up to thirty for a couple of months then he will probably take me down to 25 instead of 20 like the last time. I am feeling more optomistic than 2 days ago and I have started taking my medicine much earlier in the day in the a.m. rather than noon. Thanx for the concern, Cameron
Guest guest
Depending on your financial situation the Precor elliptical trainer gets all the raves. Smooth as silk and you will get a great workout while you watch TV or something. It is the most expensive one out there but well worth it in cold climates like yours. Guest guest
Hey Kimbra! Welcome and congrats on starting BFL! You'll find a lot of great help here. I live in Connecticut, and it gets very cold up here, too (it was in the 30s this morning!!). I usually take my workouts indoors to a gym in the winters. Any of the machines can give you a good cardio workout. Just follow the same rules outlined in the book. If you can't get indoors, then you'd better layer up!! Guest guest
If you can't afford to get an indoor machine or go to a gym with treadmills and the like, maybe find a set of stairs and just go up and down. I guarantee that will get you out of breath! I haven't done it, but just thinking about going up and down stairs in an interval training type way makes me tired! And my butt tired, and my legs tired...... I'm in Wisconsin and it gets cold here, too - in fact I've already started my cardio inside. I'm lucky enough to own a good treadmill, and I've actually found it easier to do the HIIT (high intensity interval training) on the treadmill because the road keeps moving whether you want it to or not! Good luck - in WI New Memeber Hi All! I am going to start my 1st BFL challenge on Monday. I am struggling with trying to find something innovative for my 20 minute cardio. Guest guest
Welcome! If you have a vcr or dvd, you could do interval videos Cathe Friedrich's IMAX or IMAX2 or Gin /Reebok Intnse Moves; Taebo would work too. You can also: Jump rope, do football drills, run in place, jumping jacks, etc. I think if you do a search in the archives, awhile back there were some very creative ideas posted. Guest guest
I did IMAX this morning for the same reason. It was 33° and for me that's too cold to go out and run. Guest guest
I walk to work in the coooollld Northeast. Even in 1 degree weather I'm pretty toasty by the time I get to work, and I'm only walking (through deep snow sometimes, though). But then if I were running I would be breathing harder, which is icky if it is too cold... I jump rope inside. I can do it while watching TV and it's not so loud as a treadmill. Works better on hardwood floors. Also it's best while watching something like Seinfeld you've seen a hundred times, because you can't really pay much attention during the interval bits. > If you can't afford to get an indoor machine or go to a gym with treadmills and the like, maybe find a set of stairs and just go up and down. Guest guest
Well, I was stupid enough to raise my bid on ebay to like $22.50... a moment of weakness because I really wanted the D.A.M. Looks like I'll be locked in to this one. I was suspicious because a brand new user bid late in the game and kept raising the bid by .50 increments until they were highest bidder. I bid again, then they raised it another .50 then stopped. All in all they only bid about $5 difference from their first bid. I may have been had, or maybe they'll come back and outbid me. If I get it, okay, and if I don't, okay. If they outbid me this time at the last minute...I'm letting them have it. I have the whole The Firm set, and I mean about 12 or so DVDs, books, pamphlets, cards, info., journal, the Twig, the Stepper... so I'll be using that most likely. However, it's REALLY intense, so I may have to use something less tense until I get back to where I used to be. A year ago I was one of the most athletic people I knew, now.. I'm just the opposite so I'll be finding myself crawling my way back up again. ( Oh well. I've also considered (if I can afford it) joining Curves since it's a women-only gym and is based on gaining health and fitness, rather than bodybuilding/body sculpting the hard-core way. ) Ella > hey ella i dont know if you are looking for tapes to. but check out hsn.com. > do a search for richard simmons. you get like 6 dvd, foodmover, books, > audio tapes, recipe cards. Guest guest
I don't know for sure, but it looks like something 'fishy' is up with some of them being sold. There's one particular member/ID/Bidder that not only won earlier, but is bidding on at least 3-4 more! It's really weird, actually, and a 'new' ID (created recently and with no history) has been doing something similar. I'm thinking it's friends of the seller trying to up the price. We know several people who sell through ebay and they have family and friends bid on items there to boost the price for them. Several of these people are selling items from their stores, too. I'm sticking to my guns, though, and I'm only going to pay so much. Honestly, it didn't make any sense to buy deal a meal for $37 when you can get the whole kit and kaboodle with food mover for $3 more! Ella > Why did a Deal A Meal go for 37.00!! Guest guest
Ella, You're right - age doesn't help at all. I'm 71 almost 72 and having a very difficult time of it. Although I don't have heart or diabetic problems I have other things going on. I wish you luck Marie New Memeber Hi, all. My name's Ella and I'm a mother of 3 grown boys and grandmother of 3 beautiful girls... and awaiting (any day now) the arrival of my first grandson. I have a long family history of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer, with the most prevailant being diabetes & heart disease. I've never had a problem (not too much anyway) with my weight reaching the 'dangerous' level until about a year ago when I ended up with hypothyroid symptoms. Long story short, the doc said it was " 's Syndrome " and that it could be 'cured' with T3. I'm post T3, still having symptoms, and I've gained about 100lbs over the last 1.5 years. I currently weigh 251 and would like to get down to about 140. I did deal a meal about 10 years ago and lost 60lbs, so it was a great success for me. This time around I'm working against many odds and I'm scared to death of failure, but mostly.. I'm scared of dying the way my mother did (had 2nd bout of congestive heart failure while in the hospital to have her foot removed due to diabetic complications), and the way my sister (about 150lbs overweight at least) may (she also has CHF and diabetes). I'm currently waiting to see if I win on ebay for a deal a meal kit, but I'm not terribly optimistic as I've been outbid 3 times in the last week for one. But, I'm waiting because I know 's plan worked for me like a dream in the past, and although 10 years and health problems can make a huge difference in the rate of fat loss... I have faith. ) Thank you for letting me join this group. Guest guest
Thanks, Marie. I'm sorry to hear you're having such a difficult time of it. I'm just hoping my doctor was right and that I was only experiencing " 's Syndrome " instead of overt hypothyroidism. The end results are exactly the same (symptoms, complications, etc.), but 's can be " cured " with T3 therapy until the thyroid recovers. I've been off T3 for a few months, and I've gained weight, but I'm hoping it's because I can't exercise much at all right now (that was another problem with the hypo... little recovery from exercise, and very little to no endurance). It's really so depressing because I was so athletic before the big crash. ( > Ella, > You're right - age doesn't help at all. I'm 71 almost 72 and having a very > difficult time of it.
