Guest guest
Welcome Debbie: Nice to have you in the group. My son is 15 - aren't teenagers lovely! Sounds like you have a lot on your plate. The middle of the night chats must be tough to deal with. For a while my son decided that getting up as early as possible was the way to go. Five-thirty is too early for me. He is pretty self sufficient - can help himself to cereal and stuff for breakfast. However, as soon as our dog hears someone stirring, he needs to go out so my husband and I were taking turns to get up and walk the dog. Not a big deal, certainly not compared to what you are dealing with (and it sounds like you are dealing with it by yourself) but it was exhausting all the same. Anyway, all of that was just by way of saying welcome and I have an older kid too. Will be glad to chat anytime. Guest guest
Debbie, does she have any special interests that she can handle herself during that time? Can you "save" them for her. Maybe leave notes for her to follow, make it like a game until she falls back asleep? Guest guest
Hi New Member, Does this mean that Andre is taking growth hormone injections for the RSS? Is this something that growth hormone work would work for? My son is growth hormone deficint and takes the injections, he is 12 and has been taking them since he was 5. He was so deficient that he was 4 deviations below the growth charts. We have had great success with the injections, had we not done them his adult height would have been around 4 " 10. Now he is perfectly average. His endocronologist does not like that he is gfcf, typical of a medical dr. who does not understand autism and diet. At first my son did not eat much on the diet, eventually that changes. Weight and height perfect. With his supplements his calcium is on the high end of normal. The diet is the number 1 thing we have done with him and saw BIG improvements up to this point. All stimming ended, better concentration, less fog, better behavior. It's not all perfect, but were still working on things. Good luck New Memeber Hi All, I came across information about this site while I was on another site. I'm glad I did! I have a nine year old son named Andre who has PDD and Silver Syndrome (growth disorder). I tried to implement the GF diet without success:0(. Since my son is already a very malnourished child because of the RSS when I noticed him losing weight I stopped the diet. He was losing the weight because he hated the foods. Now I'm looking at trying the enzymes to help him over come some of his stemming and autistic behaviors. My son is getting older and he likes little girls but because of his conditions he isn't sure how to approach the issue or girls. He is the sweetest, shy, soft spoken and most timid child anyone could ever meet. He really is a joy to be around everyone that meets him loves him. I'm trying to help my son by getting him some intervention that will provide solid results. My son is in special education right now and he is very high functioning and with time and help will be mainstreamed. However, I'm currently facing major challenges with the quality of his education. Andre is in the 4th grade reading on a 1st grade level. This week I will be setting up his initial assessment with Sylvan Learning Center for his reading issues. Let give you guys some history on Andre, I honestly believe that his autism was caused by his childhood immunizations. What leads me to think this is that after his set of shots at 9mos my child changed. He stopped babbling ma-ma and da-da. He stopped smiling; he began to grunt I don't your regular baby grunt I mean grunting so loudly that I was embarrassed to take him out sometimes. It was like my son went catatonic almost. I expressed my concerns to his Pediatrician. He told me I had nothing to worry about, but noted a significant drop on his growth and development curve. That's when I was given the RSS diagnosis. I still knew there was something more to my child's new strange behaviors. At one year when I knew that my son should be saying at least mom or dada or juice I had nothing. Again another trip to the Doctors yielded me nothing. I didn't get a concrete diagnosis until Andre was 4yrs.. At that time my son had just began to form simple sentences and called my name for the very first time. Although, Andre's language has improved he still speaks on the age level of a 5 or 6 year old. He has a great sense of humor and loves to pretend play and make wise cracks.

Enzymes were very beneficial for him, and carnitine for the growth issue. At my house, carnitine was required for proper absorption of fats, vitamin C, B12, folic acid, and TMG. Plus it allowed for normal growth. It can also help with low muscle tone. Dana
Guest guest
A little side note. I noticed you said you supplement with substitutes and minerals. Do you by any chance take Glucosamin and Chondroitin? If so, are you allergic to shellfish at all? I ask this because most people don't know that Chondrotin is derived from shellfish. If you have any shellfish allergy at all and are taking this on a regular basis and in the quantity that is recommended, it can have an allergic side effect. Ranging from merely a slight cough and hay-fever type result, to a full blown anaphylactic " spelling " shock. I found this out after my Rheumatologist recommended I take it, after taking it for a week and a half I started having severe trouble breathing and a rash. Then I found out about the shellfish connection. Didn't even know I was really allergic until this time. Due to the high dosage, it can cause a cumulative effect. Just a little FYI.  Shayna  It is better to be hated for who you are than liked for who you aren't. From: adallen51 <adallen07@...> Subject: New Memeber spinal problems Date: Sunday, September 28, 2008, 11:12 AM Good Morning Everyone, My name is Audrey and I am from Wisconsin. I joined the group in the hopes that I may find further resources to assist me. I am at my wits end! A little history about myself. I have been suffering for over ten years, going from doctor to doctor, being told by several doctors that my problem were psychosomatic, without even ordering proper diagnostic test. They all just wanted to stuff me full of pain meds, anxiety or depression meds and shove me out the door. I had to fight with my last GP just to see a Rheumatologist because he refused to let me have an MRI done and fill out papers for my pending disability. Which I did finally when my appeal this past December. In the past two years I was finally able to be diagnosed by both a rheumatologist and a neurologist. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic pain syndrome, severe scoliosis in the low back, stenosis, bulging disc and osteophyte at L5, degenerative disc disease, chronic fatigue, SI joint pain, sciatica, several types of arthritis and the list goes on. Over the last month or so, I have had increased pain on a daily basis, putting me right over the top. I had another series of x-rays and an MRI this past week. I am being referred back to my neurologist because it now appears that I have four pinched nerves in my neck. I am hyper-sensitive to most medications and don't tolerate pain meds at all. I had been relying on over OTC meds with little relief and they are now causing stomach problems. I do take Librium as needed as the pain level sometimes brings on anxiety attacks. I do tend to go the holistic route to self treat. I take sea salt baths with various oils. I supplement with vitamins and minerals. I try to eat a healthy diet. I am also very much intune with nature, visualizations and meditation. But lately, my pain level has been so high, that I find little relief in that as well. I am so sorry to has rambled on so. I truly feel everyone's pain and struggle. I am so happy to have found a group of people who I can relate to. Guest guest
Hi Shaynal, Thanks for the heads up. Although it was recommended, I can not take this as I do have an allergy to shellfish. I have been looking into a a vegan form made from plants. It is very expensive I think. Guest guest
Cheri, I don't know the answers to your questions, but I do know that there are two centers in NC with hard chamber HBOT. One is in the Charlotte area on the northern side in Huntersville. It's called Charlotte Metro Hyperbarics. The other is Miracle Mountain just north of Boone. We have four children who will be starting HBOT.two at Miracle Mountain in March, and two at Charlotte Metro on Monday. Dr. Rose is the medical director at Charlotte Metro, and used to be my children's pediatrician. She may be able to answer your questions. Also, there's a great neurologist in the Charlotte area(Concord) named Dr. Corbier. He's booked out two to four months, but worth coming to see. Guest guest
Hi, Believe it or not I'm not computer savoy at all, I'm not sure I'm in the right format to send a message to the group or not, so i apologize if I'm in the wrong place.I think I signed up for only individual messages? Okay, I'm hoping to get explant surgery by one of the recommended surgeons, but I will travel from NY, how does that work? They do a consult and then you travel back for the surgery on a different day? Do you stay in a hotel while you recover? How about follow up visits? Just wondering if anyone has done it this way , and how it worked in real life. I have six kids and a career in law-enforcement , and if I go to Atlanta, I would have to make all kinds of arrangements...it would be worth it...just would like to talk to someone who has done the long distance explant. I hope I'm not bothering anyone, I feel very alone, my family doesn't know I did this in the first place ,so I can't expect any help there . And my husband and I are having problems ( 20 yrs married) because my health problems are really taking a toll on our marriage. He doesn't understand why I feel horrible all the time because it wont show up on any test. He is starting to say stuff like it's in my head and maybe I should take anxiety meds. or anti-depressants. I don't believe in regular meds and drs. I got to a ND and treat all ailments w/ homeopathic remedies. My dr is not helpful w/ any tests, he wants me to take a pill and relax!! I am really very alone in this fight thanks for being there and listening.....I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong place..if so can someone point out the right spot to go ...I don't do this computer thing at all...Thanks again We won't tell.
