I'm not but I put my water soluble on top of a shake... then I

don't drink water on top of it for 30 min's hoping the shake liquid will

dissolve the dry (powder) supplements... lol... thinking about it is like a

" time organized " symphony to get it all down and done right in a day huh?

After it becomes habit though at least I don't have to spend all extra time

thinking about it... I'm not sure how it is working since I haven't had

" just vitamins " tested but it works fine for those things that are normally

tested. My DEXA was good and those calcium's go on top of a shake.

I eat when I take pills, take pills when I eat. I've never been able to

manage pills with water (not coordinated--I know, Vitalady that can't take

vitamins. Haha). Dr Fox watched me do this one time, and darnit, I can be

very careful, but apparently he was watching more closely than I thought.

He said, " Do you always do that? " He was pondering if the food was

interfering with absorption, I know.

Since then, I read more that says that most pills do BETTER with some food

than without, simply because the food makes more saliva, and (if we had it)

would generate more stomach acid to break down the pills more completely.

Isn't THAT interesting?

Of course, some pills request an empty stomach.

My personal reasons for taking food & pills together are #1: dumb (can't

work the throat thing) and #2: smart (I also like to like the stomach, as

you said, so the pills and/or meds don't irritate my persnickety stomach

lining)

In THEORY, calcium citrate would be better without food, but in our case, it

doesn't t matter as much, since we don't have much HCL and eating doesn't

make a pile of it.

I only use irons that CAN be taken with food. The concept of iron on

empty------OW, I cannot think of it.

Just to add an idea that may work for someone, I know it worked

wonders for me. , I like yourself have difficulty

swallowing pills. I would go through contortions trying to get even

the smallest pill down,,,,no matter how much liquid chased it with.

This resulted in my being negligent of the pills my body required.

Finally I discovered if I put the pill on the tip of the teaspoon

with yogurt, applesauce, I even put it on the bubbles in my protein

shake once and it worked. There is absolutely no fighting with any

of my pills now. Honestly, it takes such a small amount to get a

good size pill down and no gagging, etc.

I spoke with my doctor about this and he says it has to do with the

swallowing mechanism in our throat~~swallowing food is a function

that is normal to the body. Our body is often uncooperative in

swallowing pills,,,,therefore, trick the little (and, some not so

little) suckers!

Hope this helps, and if your skeptical, try it...you may be

surprised.

Take care,

KJ

I need some ideas about how to remember my vitamins! The morning ones are no

problem at all, and the evening ones I can usually remember....but those in

between always get forgotten, and that means I'm constantly forgetting some

of my Calcium, which I know I need. How do you all carry your vitamins with

you to work and keep track of them and the time? I've tried little pill

containers, but can't find one big enough to hold an entire day's worth that

will still fit in my purse. Any ideas??

Thanks!

This was one of the hardest things for me to deal with. I went through

a period of being obsessed and upset if I didn't get them all in. After

the second year, I calmed down a little. I keep a big bottle of calcium

on my desk at work, and at first, bought a clock radio set to go off

whenever I was supposed to take them - the music didn't bother my

coworkers, and helped me. I carry a small pill box with calcium in my

pocketbook at all times, and keep extra bottles of multi, vitamin C and

iron, in case I forget anything in the morning.

Now, I usually remember them all. Sometime I find myself short at night

on one dose of calcium - it's still hard to remember ( I am very anemic,

so I'm also taking iron three times a day, so everything has to be

spaced out carefully....)

I like this idea of the film containers. I'm gonna try that. If I take 2 or

3 then I can slip them into a baggie and my doses are separated. The larger

containers are just too big to carry around in my purse.

Thanks for the tip,

My husband bought me an alarm medicine container. It holds just a few pills but

during the day that's all I need room for.. (has 4 divisions) and has 4 separate

alarms. [purchased it from Wal-Mart] This worked great for me to get into the

habit. I no longer need it but hang on to it.... never know when something

comes up that I'm going to need to have another pill to remember to take...

Does your cell phone have a clock with a timer? I just set the timer

on my cell phone to help me remember stuff. It's what I use to let

me know when I can drink after a meal so that I don't " forget " and

drink too early. I take my pills with my meals so then I don't

forget those. My hardest ones are the bedtime ones. Sometimes I'm

just so darn tired that I either forget or am too bone lazy to get

them. I found a four part pill container that holds a days worth of

pills for me. It's divided into morn, noon, evening, and bed. But

for a while I used a little bitty tupperware-type container that

dropped into my purse.

Here it goes....

I take my first dose of iron before I leave the house w/C. When I have my

morning shake I normally have my multi, e, B-12 & Biotin along with my synthroid

and prozac. After lunch - first dose of calcium, after dinner second dose of

calcium - 1 hour later more iron w/C & copper (only once a day as too much

copper is toxic - ty Sue!). Just before bed last dose of calcium. I carry a 7

day vitamin shoppe box but I use each spot for different vitamins.

I take my first calcium right after breakfast. I try to take another at

noon and the third after dinner. If I forger the noon, I take the

evening dosage before dinner and then a third dosage a couple of hours

later. I take my multivitamin last thing on an empty stomach.

Diane,

I have a similar problem. The way I handle it is that I put my

calcium in a baggy and leave it on top of my computer keyboard. I

take my iron when I arrive in the office. I take two calciums at 11

and another two before I leave the office. The remaining two in the

baggy get stuffed into my bra and I take them any time between

after dinner and going to bed.

Good luck
