Barb,

We found that Fleets suppositories worked best for my mom. Sometimes

they come out if not inserted deep enough - you have to keep a lookout

for that. We used them when she was constipated, or occasionaly when

her bowels were slightly impacted. No specific time of day - but

once a day until the issue was resolved. Just went by the directions

on the box.

We did find that when she had impacted bowels more often later and wound

up getting a prescription for Enulose which helps her tremendously.

However, the Fleets suppositories worked fairly well for the constipation.

Barb and others,

One of the speakers at the Boston conference is a gastroenterolgist

who has addressed the local Boston support group before. He is

excellent and I promise to report back to the group on all his

suggestions for constipation treatments.

We use 2 Bisacodyl 10mg suppositories every 3 days along with 1 1/2 TBS Enulose everyday. It works for Leo, he is totally immobile at this time. Ginger

Barbara,

Charlotte used a stool softener which helped greatly. She used

ducsolate sodium liquid (Colace is a brand name but the generic worked

fine) about a teaspoon a day seem ed to work most of the time at times

we had to increase it. It seemed to work best with her when given

first thing in the morning. Colace cost about $20 per pint and the

generic cost about $4 a pint in liquid form - except at Rite-Aid who charged

us $120 a pint the first time I bought it. They never did explain

why they charged me so much for it although they admitted that was more

than others were charging for it. They finally just stopped answering my

emails and phone calls.

Take care, Bill Werre

That is certainly a good topic to consider. Thankyou for working this out.

We need to know if there are any new treatments or something that works

better than the Miralax.

Another name for Bisacodyl is Ducolax. Ducolax is a brand name so they are

much more expensive but they are more widely available and are easier to

find when you're out.

One treatment that I don't think is on Vera's list is lactulose. Lactulose

is an invert sugar solution that is not used by the body and therefore helps

the stools become softer. Too much can cause very loose stools so you need

to be somewhat careful.

Peg and Jim from Guam

7. Bisacodyl usp suppositories (Barb )

these come in a box, not like fleet in a jar. Rite aid has these for

half the cost in their bland.
