Water, iced tea, crystal lite -- any thin liquid -- and I'm likely to gag or have the pills get stuck part way down. But when I take them with my protein shake or V8, no problem, they slide down nice and easy, and no hesitation. I've never tried with jello, somehow I think that would be difficult. But I have many a time tried yogurt, and find it's a bit TOO thick and the pills tend to get stuck on the way down just as easily as with thin liquids. Just my 2 cents. Guest guest
I thought I would share something I found out from another post-op on how to make pills go down with ease,,,and " it works " !!! Put your pills on the tip of a spoon that is dipped in yogurt, Jell-O, anything frothy. When you swallow the food on the spoon, the pill or vitamin slides down. It doesn't get STUCK.....I was so happy this worked. I had a devilish time getting pills down. I haven't had any problems at all swallowing (even my horse pills) if they are on yogurt is my food of choice. I spoke to my doctor about my theory, he thought it sounded correct. When a person swallows food it is a natural motion. When we swallow pills 1) it is something that most people hesitate, especially with our small pouches (fear of getting pill stuck) 2) Pills alone, even chased with liquids doesn't seem to want to go ALL the way down. Ohhhh how many pills have I had just at that point, waiting.....waiting for it to get down. Anyway, for those of you who have difficult swallowing pills, maybe give it a try. Now I have just have to make sure I am taking all my vitamins ALL the time....no more excuses. KJ RNY May 2000 259/125/139 (wanting to get rid of a few)!!
