Guest guest
I woke this morning, another beautiful mother's day to behold. Sleeping quietly, a handicapped husband and a seventeen year old. These moments of solitude are a cherished part of my day Time to reflect and prepare for whatever should come my way. When I look up again I am shocked and amazed To find the seventeen year old awake and carrying a vase. It's your day today Mom and I'm ready to go, The Flowers are for you, in case you didn't know. Then he disappears, and I sit with my coffee, one more moment, all mine. I reflect on being a mom, the giggles and spills, that happy time. The moment stretches on and I don't understand why, I feel like what I need most is a really good cry. Time to be a caregiver, time to set my " self " aside This I say with a smile, and a sign. When what to my wondering eyes doth appear? A husband all dressed, sitting proudly in the wheelchair. Looking at me with a twinkle in his eye, My seventeen-year old son smiles and I think I might cry. It's your gift from me, Mom, he says with a smile Dad and I did just fine, even if it took quite a while. From morning till night, this child of mine Gave of himself – gave of his time What a wonderful gift to give to this Mother A child happily caring for both Mother and Father. As the day drew to a close and he'd gotten his dad into bed He gave me a kiss on the top of my head. I wrapped my arms around my son And thanked him for the gift and all he had done. Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. In the loving hands of those I bore, I leave the one I daily care for. The greatest gifts come from above, they carry a message of the God's Special love. Jan Burg
