Guest guest
Yes, I did have it a few years ago, had shooting pains through my ear. I never got that device, but I've heard it often does help. Mine went away on its own after a few months. It was really annoying. Hope you feel better! in NJ ************************************ In a message dated 10/24/2002 7:23:24 PM Eastern Daylight Time, saabc@... writes: > Does anyone have this--it's a new one for me...the dentist says it is from > clenching my jaw at night and wants me to try a device....any thoughts? > > My ear hurts when I move my jaw in a certain position....(I know, don't > move > my jaw there...) > in Nebraska >

Guest guest
, I do hope it clears up. But, if it gets much worse, and if an appliance doesn't do the trick, look for a book entitled " Working in a [Very] Small Place, " by a doc from Univ. of Pittsburgh Hospital (sorry, I do not know his name). He inserts a bit of Teflon foam near the ear between the TM nerve and the nearby pulsing blood vessel so that the pulsing will no longer cause the pain. A dear friend of mine benefitted from that surgery over five years ago. An older treatment severed the TM nerve to stop the pain. But, the result was that the side of the face then drooped forevermore. Guest guest
, I have TMJ and go to a Chiropractor. When I'm having a problem he adjusts for it. It's painless and works untill I go back to the dentist and have to hold my mouth open for a filling and such. Years ago when the dentist told me I had TMJ, he wanted to break my jawbone and wire it back together....... no way. Chiropractor has saved me alot of pain and money. And yes it can cause ear pain too. Good Luck, Debbie in Al
Guest guest
I wear a bite guard to bed every night. I sleep much better and it helps keep my jaw lined up properly, even during the day. I don't have pain in my ear anymore, although at stressful times I'll get headaches which radiate along that side of my face. I can really tell a difference if I go away for the weekend and forget to take it. Everything in my mouth has shifted, and it takes a couple of nights to readjust things! I've learned to live with the popping and cracking. Better than surgery. The chiropracter helps as well, when needed. Guest guest
Yes, I have it too. In my case my jaw pops when I move it a certain way. Very annoying but usually avoidable. The worst part is if I eat something really chewy like beef jerky because my jaw will lock up and not open all the way. It passes after awhile. The dentist said it is due to some cartilage slipping, I think. It was awhile ago but I think he said it can be improved by changing my bite. I don't' do the clenching at night but if I were you I would try the device. It can't hurt, right? in MI Subject: TMJ Hi-- Does anyone have this--it's a new one for me...the dentist says it is from clenching my jaw at night and wants me to try a device....any thoughts? My ear hurts when I move my jaw in a certain position....(I know, don't move my jaw there...) in Nebraska
