Guest guest
Hi Barbara,I know for sure that they were saline implants, but I don't know about weather they had lumen with valves.Could I possibly get that information from the surgeon that just removed them? > > > From: kassfisher70 <kassfisher70@...> > Subject: Dark brown implant > > Date: Tuesday, March 29, 2011, 11:31 AM > > > Â > > > > Hello, > My name is Kathleen and I was diagnosed with scleraderma in 2006 I got my breast implants in 1992. Guest guest
Look in the archives in the photo section, there are quite a few pictures of implants that are contaminated. Even the liquid silicone filled silicone implants are porous and they can grow nasty organisms in them. Guest guest
Looking at the pictures many of them look like what I saw when the doctor showed me,specially the one that said it had fungus,it was so dark that it possibly could have been black mold.Mine looked to be almost completly filled with that.I did call my doctor yesterday and asked if there was anyway that I could get my implant, and I was told no from his nurse, that they immediatley throw them away and they are burned, and that I should have discussed that with my doctor before hand.Mean while hows was I to know that the implant was contaminated.I feel alot of my cure and answers are in what was in that implant.I pray that maybe he kept it for some reason. Is that standard that they show you pictures after an explant? It wasn't like I asked to see them nore did I know to ask.I am very thankful for this site and reading some of the ladies stories are so similar to my own,I don't feel alone anymore with dealing with my issues. My heart breaks at the thought that I could have possibly passed this through breast milk to my children.I guess there are many things I will learn along the way but right now getting well is my first focus. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, I want to first say that I am really sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with Scleroderma. There have been implanted women over the years that have been diagnosed with this disease, and it is one of a number of autoimmune diseases that have cropped up after implants have been placed. It is not an easy condition to deal with. Congratulations on your explant....that was such an important step to take! Breast implants removed have sometimes been found to be discolored. There are several reasons for it, namely either mold/bacterial contamination, or it could be the result of a substance injected into the implant at the time of implantation, in the hopes of warding off infection or contamination of the saline solution. You can see in this article where this woman's implants were found to be discolored, and a discussion of the organisms found. Hopefully your implants were discolored from the antibiotic solution, and not from the organisms, but it would be prudent to treat your body for any possible contamination, assuming both bacterial and fungal exposure. That is what I did, using all natural therapies at home. It took me 4 years to heal but I did get my health back. I'm believing that you can gain some measure of health back too. You may even be able to get your scleroderma to go into remission. It's possible. If you look through our archives from the early years of this group, I posted some articles and information about a woman who overcame her scleroderma. She wrote a book about it, which is out of print, but she used to be called " The Juice Lady " , because she healed through the use of raw, freshly extracted juices. It's worth the effort! Best wishes in your recovery! Keep asking questions...we are here to help. Patty http://www.mold-survivor.com/breast_implant_horror__leaky.html ( " Also, some doctors have been known to add ingredients like antibiotics and disinfectants in the hope of preventing infections. These additives degrade in the implant's solution after years inside the body. In fact, in Gordon's implant, Blais did find degraded Keflin, an antibiotic, which contributed to the black color. Guest guest
The name of the lady that wrote the book about curing her Scleroderma was Joanne Suhr, and her book is called " Holiday From Death " . The book is out of print, but you may be able to find it used somewhere. I had a copy, but gave it away to a woman I knew who had scleroderma. Joanne's story was also told in Woman's World magazine in 1998 or thereabouts....I talked to her by phone several times before she passed away. Here is a review of the book: A Provacative Personal Account of Healing by Juice Therapy, January 22, 2007 By Rose of Sharon (Iowa) - See all my reviews This review is from: Holiday from Death (Paperback) Joanne Suhr recounts her personal brush with death and subsequent remission from the effects of the autoimmune disease scleroderma in " Holiday From Death " . She relates her tale of bizarre symptoms, misdiagnosis, and bombardment with potent and toxic medications to the point that her organs begin to shut down. Following her medical death sentence of 3 months, she turns her back on traditional medicine and improves her health by juicing raw fruits and vegetables. Unable to convince the medical establishment of the value of this natural therapy, she decides to make her story available to the public. As a fellow sufferer and daughter of a woman with scleroderma, I found myself crying and laughing with Joanne. This book is written from the heart. Her genuine desire to help others is obvious as is her belief in the healing power of juice therapy. This book holds out a literal and figurative carrot--the promise of remission from scleroderma through juice therapy. I give this book 3 stars because it holds out hope...I just hope it isn't false hope. > > > > Hello, > > My name is Kathleen and I was diagnosed with scleraderma in 2006 I got my breast implants in 1992. Guest guest
Kathleen, There were lots of things we didn't know when we got implants...we had to learn the hard way. I'm glad you found this group, and hopefully we can help you through this rough time. The implants are out now, so you can focus on your health. What about your kids? Do they have any health issues, or are they fine? Guest guest
Hi Patty, I have 3 children all were born with me having implants. My oldest son was very sick when he was a baby he is 15 and is doing fine now,we only deal with asthma with him and that seems to be something he is out growing. My daughters is 4 and her health has never been a problem.I guess my concern lies in my 6 month old that I breast feed for 3 months. He has been sick often with bad sinus infections and ear infections.I am hoping that is just due to the fact he was born going into that time of the year when we often do get sick.He seems to be doing ok right now,he hasn't been sick for a month. Thanks much for the information on how to begin my healing with scleraderma,it is a very challenging disease to say the least. But I am a fighter and do plan on coming out on to.Thanks again > > > > > > > > > From: kassfisher70 <kassfisher70@> > > > Subject: Dark brown implant > > > > > > Date: Tuesday, March 29, 2011, 11:31 AM > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > My name is Kathleen and I was diagnosed with scleraderma in 2006 I got my breast implants in 1992. Guest guest
I think women should email photos of the discolored, failed implants to the FDA. Their handbook mentions toxic shock as a possible risk, but it fails to mention the other mold/fungal issues. http://www.fda.gov/MedicalDevices/ProductsandMedicalProcedures/ImplantsandProsth\ etics/BreastImplants/ucm064106.htm I'm going to be writing to the ASPS to give them some 'feedback'. I hope you all do too. The surgeons should be fully documenting these implant failures. At what point would any of them choose to have those potential scum balloons in their bodies? Shame, shame. http://www1.plasticsurgery.org/public/feedbackform.aspx Hugs of support, M. > > Looking at the pictures many of them look like what I saw when the doctor showed me,specially the one that said it had fungus,it was so dark that it possibly could have been black mold.Mine looked to be almost completly filled with that.I did call my doctor yesterday and asked if there was anyway that I could get my implant, and I was told no from his nurse, that they immediatley throw them away and they are burned
