Guest guest
OK...so this is a very old article. But it doesn't change the fact that Joanne cured herself, and went on to live well. She had her own business, becoming known as The Juice Lady around the time that Jay " The Juiceman " Kordich was making himself famous with his juicer. The sad end to Joanne's life was that she got breast implants, after all she had been through, and what ultimately killed her was lung cancer. I can only speculate....was it her breast implants that was the trigger for the lung cancer? We know women with implants have higher rates.... Woman Defies Doctors Author To Describe How She Beat Odds August 27, 1993|By GLENN SINGER Staff Writer Joanne Suhr says she is taking a holiday from death. She expects it to be a long one. The 41-year-old Port Charlotte mother of two suffers from scleroderma, an incurable, debilitating disease - one in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissues. Her problems started at age 13, when she developed Raynaud's phenomenon - a painful, purplish response of the hands and feet to the cold. The affliction caused gnarled, twisted hands with stumps where fingers once were. Then, at age 16, all her teeth fell out. Her general health continued to worsen, and in 1981, Suhr was given three months to live by doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Minneapolis. Her liver and lungs were failing; she was in intense pain; she could barely walk. She didn't give up; rather, she changed her eating habits. And on Saturday, she will speak in West Palm Beach, preaching the virtues of a natural, chemical-free diet, vitamin supplements and, above all, fresh juices. Aside from deformed fingers caused by her disease, Shur says she is symptom-free and catching up for all those years of suffering. The author of Holiday From Death: How Fresh Juices Saved My Life, Suhr will be at the Ramada Resort, 630 Clearwater Park Road, from noon to 4 p.m. She will be joined by chiropractor Schneider, who will suggest ways to improve health. Admission is $3. " A number of osteopaths and chiropractors believe in natural foods as a way toward obtaining optimum health, " Suhr said. " Many medical doctors, though, don't know much about nutrition. " It was a medical doctor, though, who turned Suhr's life around - by phone. She had gotten the name of C. Norman Sheely from a friend, and she called him at his pain clinic in LaCrosse, Wis., after she received the Mayo Clinic prognosis. Sheely is a former neurosurgeon who advocates natural food, vitamin and mineral supplements and meditation. " He told me to eliminate colas and meat and coffee and foods containing chemicals and dyes. He told me, `Go home and clean out your cupboard, Joanne.''' She did. And she started preparing fresh juices, particularly carrot juice. Not long after, things started to change. " I am really a miracle, " Suhr said. " I feel fantastic, and the physical and emotional scars have faded. I've stopped thinking about my death and started thinking about my life.
