Guest guest
The rule of thumb on Protein Drinks for me is: Does it have 20-25 grams of Protein? Is it a low-carbohydrate product? Is it a no sugar or very low sugar product? (under 3 grams) Is it made of Whey Protein (pre-digested, ultra-filtered)? The next big question is how does it taste? This is very personal. I know I have purchased some Protein drinks that others have raved about and had to spit them out. It's a hit and miss venture, but a necessary one. EAS makes a few good products. I am not sure about Edge, but Myoplex is excellent. I eat one or two Myoplex protein bars a day they have 0 sugar and 3 gms of carbs. It is just easier for me then the shakes (although at night I do make a shake or two). There are people who shy away from Protein bars because they taste too much like candy bars, but I think it may be because they are eating the ones with high carbs and sugars, they are as bad for you as a candy bar in many cases. You HAVE to read the labels. Carbs metabolize into glycogen which when not used within a short period of time metabolizes into sugar which stores. May the force be with you Carol G. Guest guest
This is the information I have on this so far.... thank you.... Betty calories: 115 Fat: 2g Cholesterol: 45g Total Carb: 4g sugars: 3g Protein 20g Calcium: 160mg Iron: .4mg Sodium 60mg Potassium: 200mg Stevia: 28mg Other ingredients: Protein blend (whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate, cocoa powder, natural and artificial flavors, lecithin, and acesultame potassium I found it... this is what it says.... I think I will give it a try... wouldn't you? Betty http://www.eas.com/ Whey protein has one of the highest biological values of any protein on the market. This is due to its excellent amino acid profile, solubility, and digestibility. A high biological value means that it may " yield " more usable grams of amino acids. Whey protein also contains the highest concentration of branched chain amino acids (BCAA's) of any single protein source. This BCAA content is important to active individuals because BCAA's are an integral part of muscle metabolism and are the first amino acids sacrificed during muscle protein breakdown. Not only does Whey Protein provide all the exceptional benefits that a pure whey protein powder offers, it is also low in carbohydrates, fat, and cholesterol. With 21 grams of whey protein per serving and just two grams of fat, Whey Protein provides a high quality source of protein to aid in meeting your daily protein requirements. ----- Original Message ----- is it a blended whey? is it listed as predigested enzyme enhanced? whats the tally on it? calories vs. sugar, vs. carb vs. protein? sue

EAS Edge HP Chocolate Whey Protein.... was this a good purchase for me? You do want Whey Protein, but you probably want the EAS Low-Carb, as the regular has a lot of sugar and might make you dump. Even if you don't dump, you'll be getting way more calories and carbs than you need. ~~Lyn G
Guest guest
Be careful with the protein bars as opposed to the protein drinks. The drinks are usually predigested protein, which means they are already broken down into the smaller protein pieces/amino acids so the with our " shortened systems " we have time to digest them. The protein bars are not predigested, which means the protein in bars is no different than eating a chicken breast, or any other dietary protein. I would not recommend that you count the protein in protein bars toward the protein total you get from your protein drinks. They are not the same kind of protein for the RNY or DS body. Guest guest
In the Designer Whey protein bars the protein is Whey protein concentrate from whey isolates and hydrolyzed protein. Myoplex Low carbs bars contain a Protein blend of Calcium aseinate, whey protein isolate, soy protein isolate, whey protein concentrate. My understanding of protein isolate is that it has been pre-digested and ultra filtered into smaller isolates which make the proteins very absorbable Carol G " If you always do whatcha always did, you will always get whatcha always got " ~*~ Website: www.carollis.com ~*~ Proverbs " As you think, so shall you manifest " ~*~ Dr. Philip McGraw, " If you choose the behavior, accept the consequence. Guest guest
Amen! If you're going to eat protein which is not pre-digested, I would suggest eating something really bulky that will fill your pouch up for a long time....like a piece of grilled or fried chicken, or a little piece of steak.....that's a real filler-upper! If you're proximal, you'll get some protein *and* you're pouch will stay full if you follow the no water for an hour or hour and a half rule. in Austin RNY April 1998 Re: I was wondering.... > Be careful with the protein bars as opposed to the protein drinks.
