Re: Update on Ned

A big thank you to all who responded to my request for prayers. You must

have been busy (and effective) because Ned came home from the hospital today.

The IVP did show several small stones, but they were not causing any

blockage and the kidneys looked healthy in spite of the 7 stones he has

passed recently (yes, 7 -- he passed another one today). The doctor did

also see stones in his bladder, so we went back down to endoscopy and the

doc scoped Ned's bladder (doc let me look through the scope too!)-- there

several large bladder stones, ranging from " dime to nickel " size --that we

are going to consider having surgically removed in a few weeks (elective

surgery at this time, but could turn emergent at some point in the future).

They loaded him up with some IV antibiotics (the Internist recognized the

fact that MSAers are febrile with a " normal " temp!!! and started him on the

meds before I knew anything about it) The doctors were all super -- both had

seen Ned several years ago when he was in the hospital for infection and k.

stones -- but they have no contact with us between hospital visits! The

" student " intern had never had a MSA patient, but was eager to learn and

ordered anything I suggested!

I must add though, that I became a bona fide member of the PBC (pushy broad

club) the first day Ned was there (I'm sure the nurses and patient care staff

were ready to shoot me) in order to get things moving to get him a suction

machine, air mattress etc. It was only after they saw how much care Ned

needed and how much I did (cathing, suctioning, removing stool digitally,

feeding etc.etc. -- you all know what I mean) that they were very considerate

and were always stopping by to see if we needed anything. We weren't there

long enough for PT and the other " therapies " or I might have qualified for

the presidency of the PBC.!!

All in all it was a good -- and fortunately a brief -- hospital stay, and we

are glad to be home.

I'll keep you posted on the surgery if we decide to go through with it.

Thanks again for all of the prayers. Judy B.

Judy,

I'm so glad to hear that Ned is home from the hospital and that you

had a good experience with the staff -- in spite of needing to start

off as a pushy broad. Sometimes it is necessary, isn't it? (I still

think Aussie Anne is president though, for talking them into giving

her the stomach pacemaker!)

Hopefully the gall stones can be removed without causing too much

difficulty and Ned will be comfortable again.
