Guest guest
I AM 4 YEARS POST-OP AND DURING THE LAST YEAR I HAVE SUDDENLY DEVELOPED WHAT MY DOCTOR AND I BELIEVE IS DUMPING SYNDROME. THE DOCTOR HAS BEEN TREATING ME FOR DIABETES BUT THAT DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE WORKING. MY BLOOD SUGARS WITHIN 10 TO 30 MINUTES AFTER EATING ANYTHING WITH CARBS IS ELEVATED IN SPITE OF TAKING DIABETIC MEDICATION. I HAVE TRIED LOW GLYCEMIC FOODS FOR BREAKFAST SUCH AS HIGH FIBER CEREAL AND IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. MY BLOOD SUGAR STILL ELEVATES. IF I EAT A COMPLETE PROTEIN MEAL MY BLOOD SUGAR STAYS WITHIN NORMAL LIMITS EVEN WITHOUT TAKING MEDICATION. THE DOCTOR DOESN'T FEEL THAT A DIET SUCH AS ATKINS IS GOOD FOR YOU. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE THIS PROBLEM? PLEASE HELP. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EAT, ESPECIALLY AT BREAKFAST. I RREALLY DON'T LIKE EGGS. THANK YOU, MURIELLE
Guest guest
There is no law that one must eat breakfast food for breakfast. I don't like any of the stuff that most people eat for breakfast, never have, and probably never will. My first meal of the day is whatever I want. Usually something like cottage cheese, or whatever meat is leftover from dinner, or in the summer a salad. Grilled cheese sandwiches and chicken noodle soup are my youngest granddaughter's choice of ideal breakfast foods- she's just like me, hates " breakfast " stuff. Often I'll have chicken broth with protein powder mixed in. Eat what you like. By the way, I too have diabetes that is controlled now by oral medications, 45 mg. Actos and 1500 mg. glucophage per day. Try eating the stuff that doesn't lift bg's for breakfast and forget about what everyone else has. I promise that the Breakfast Food Police won't show up at your house! Guest guest
MURIELLE Please turn off your CAP lock key.... I am 23 post RNY.... Is your physican a general surgeon, a bariatric surgeon or a general practioner? You need to meet with a board certified " bariatric " surgeon as they are more knowledgable about our problems...than other physcians. It appears to me, that you have developed an intolerance for carbohydrates for some reason or other. It could be just a momentary thing. Hang in there and get some advice from a " bariatric " surgeon. I am living on a high protein, low carbohydrate diet! Unlike you, I love eggs I still wouldn't trade my position now, for what it was 23 years ago. As a side note, I lost my oldest son to Obesity, a year ago this past spring, he would have been 38 years old this May. He weighed over 450lbs, and his heart stopped while he was asleep during the night. dumping syndrome > I AM 4 YEARS POST-OP AND DURING THE LAST YEAR I HAVE SUDDENLY > DEVELOPED WHAT MY DOCTOR AND I BELIEVE IS DUMPING SYNDROME.
