Guest guest
Marcia, If your ferritin is at a 17 (should be around 100 or more), that means you have used up all of your iron storages. What is your hemaglobin? Did he prescribe iron shots? B12? Don't ignore these lab values. My hematologist told me to take ferrous sulfate (unfortunately) as it came in liquid form. I did take that for a week or so, but I generally take Vita4Life. I was taking Chromagen forte, but I don't take that anymore. Again, don't ignore your lab values, it sounds to me like your iron is quite low. B
Guest guest
Good morning everyone!, I, again want to thank everyone here for all of your helpful postings. Thanks to all of you, I feel like I may be able to lose some of the weight that I gained back in the last 10 years. Because of all of your tips, the Pouch For Dummies, and Vita- Lady...I am now On Track....and losing weight again....and it seems to be sooo easy (at least for now). I am not drinking with any meals, eating low carb, low fat, high protein, and around 1100-1200 calories, and using Fitday.com......it is working for me right now...and I pray that it continues!! I do need some advice on Ferriton.....my family Dr. checked my labs and said that I was around 17 on my Ferriton and to take Slow FE iron tablets....1 per day. After about 5 days....I got terribly sick...vomiting....black stools,....terrible stomach ache and back ache.....I am fine today, finally....it must have been the Ferriton tablets....Does anyone know a safe and gentle and effective product? Again, family doctors are just not up on these things.. Also, a friend of mine had a stapling many years ago....was diagnosed with severe Osteoporosous...and internist prescribed Vivactive...(calcium carbonate chewable)and weekly Fosamax...I thought these were not effective for us? Guest guest
marcia, Congrats to you. As for your friend, if she had a VBG with no malabsorption and access to the lower stomach then it is okay for her to have Fosamax and Viactiv chewables. The reason is she has her whole stomach accessed. As for the osteoporosis that happens to people without surgery so it may not be due to her surgery. It may just be due to the fat that she is one of those that gets it. Does that make sense? Rasley mailto:drasley@... I know that if I go low-carb, high protein, no drinking with meals, but lots of water throughout the day, and of course some exercise, I will start to lose again too! Thanks for sharing that. Guest guest
You might try prenatal vitamin supplements. The iron in them is usually in an iron amino acid chelate form. Iron amino acid chelate is a dipetide molecule with one part amino acid and one part iron. It is small enough to be absorbed without being broken down by digestive action. It is very easy for the body to strip off the amino acid molecule and free up the elemental iron. Its high bioavailability is why it is recommended for pregnant women. It is easy for them to pass the iron on to the fetus. Guest guest
Yes, carbonate is NOT the preferred form. If I can figure out how to repro this huge article, it states very clearly that carbonate plus dairy actually leaches calcium from the bone & prevents the calcium getting into the bones. Scared me. I've always been a big fan of cheese & such. Guest guest
I read -- in several places over the years -- that CARBONATION (not carbonate but CARBONATION) leaches calcium from the bone and prevents the calcium from getting into it. Are you sure that isn't what you meant? Rasley mailto:drasley@...
