Guest guest
Hi everyone, Hunt got his labs back today and his ast's and alt's had gone up from 36 and 39 to 43 and 60 in a week. He has been sick with a cold. Do you think that could be a reason why? When he has a flare-up., his numbers usually jump much higher. What is ya'll opinion? Thanks, Rosemary

Guest guest
Bert, When I was on higher doses 60 mg's I though I would go crazy. Up all night. Yelling at everyone. Crying one minute and laughing the next. Flushed " funny " feeling in my face and neck area. As they tapered down the prednisone these all got better. I have not been well controlled on Prednisone and Imuran so they switched to Prednisone and Cellcept. Not much difference on either but Cellcept's side effects were much less for me. I have been on Prednisone since July of 2000. It has taken it's toll on me with its side effects but since they can't seem to take me off without my LFT's going back up, what do you do. I now take 7.5 mg's daily and feel very little symptoms from it. I noticed for me at 20 mg's the side effects were managable. I'm 5 ft 11 inches tall and normally weight about 150 lbs before Prednisone. Now about 175. The doctors though that because of my size they had been a little light on the dose. They said I was the size of most men and they had put me on a " ladies " dose. On the higher doses of course the LFT's stayed better controlled. That's been my experience. But we are all different. Hope this info helps. .
Guest guest
Bert, prednisone alone can cause mood swings and I think if you are on higher dosages you don't ever really "get used" to it. As they lower the dosage I think your body adjusts to it better or else the side effects lessen. This is just my personal experience, but I've only been on it for 3 and 1/2 months. Someone else might have some more insight. Glad to hear you are feeling a little better. Take care, Bethanne
Guest guest
Bert, Normally I am a very mild-mannered person but when I went on the prednisone BOY!!!!! did that change. I have to remind people to tell me when I start to get b****y --to tell me. I don't realize what I am doing and things come out of my mouth so fast. The mood swings are pretty bad for me. I almost never got angry before, now I get angry in a flash. I really hate that about myself now. I will be so glad when the drs. reduce the pred. Had my appt. on friday and he decided not to lower it yet. Also having quite a time with BP since going off the Ace-Inhibitor. It keeps rising slowly, so they have added another BP med. My counter looks like a pharmacy again. Take care, glad you are feeling better. Guest guest
Dear Joanna, Those mood swings are something else.......hopefully they will be able to lower your pred. dosage soon and you will be back to your old cheerful self. But in the mean time, just look at the prednisone as a necessary evil to help you get better. It does get better with lower doses..... good luck..... Still at 20mg of pred. 50mg Imuran. Not sure why dr. decided to not cut it last week, I think I missed something during the converstation. He still thinks I look yellow, but I know he keeps looking at all my freckles.( I have alot of them) He wasn't in very good humor last week, I heard him yelling at someone on the phone before he came in to talk to me and I am sure his mind wasn't on my problems. Guest guest
Look into EFAs (essential fatty acids) like flax or cod liver oil. Definately get T3, don't settle for T4 alone. Tell your doctor you want a free T3 test, which should be in the upper quadrant of range. Look at www.brodabarnes.org Broda believed diabetes is a thyroid symptom but Broda docs use Armour. Gracia > I am hypothyroid and I just recently found out I am diabetic. I also have recently had a angioplasty after going to emergency for chest pains. (thank goodness I did ...I had an artey that was 98% blocked!) Anyway I am on a diabetic diet now and also low fat, low salt, low caffeine etc. for my heart. I have lost 26 lbs since June 10. Last week I started taking apple cider vinagar tablets because I read they burn off fat ...does anyone know if this is true? Also does anyone know what else I could be taking in the vitamin, mineral, herb area for my diabetese and my heart and to help me lose weight that woudl not interfere with the prescribed medications I am on. I am presently taking a multivitamin, garlic pills, chromium and calcium. > > >
Guest guest
I've heard that it's best to get the flax seeds & grind them (or just get the ground seed) instead of the oil. I think it's supposed to be as beneficial as the cod liver oil. Has anyone heard differently? Re: Question? Look into EFAs (essential fatty acids) like flax or cod liver oil. Guest guest
I have the same problem. The Doctors told me that the bonedensity loss would slow down. I don't think you can ever recover what was lost, but you should probably be taking Fosamax, and doing weight bearing exercises. Guest guest
Sherry, I got one of those with every single shot I ever took. Put some AVEENO or Gold Bond Medicated lotion on it and don't scratch it. This will happen ever time you take a shot. You also need to keep from getting alot of direct sunshine on it. That will make it redder and bigger! It got to be one way for me to remember which leg to shoot. Be sure you alternate legs with every shot! Guest guest
Hi Sebastian, I was on 50 mg of predisone for about 6 months and they tapered me totally off predisone, they tapered me way too quickly, and it made me feel really bad when they tapered from 50 to 40 in just a week's time, I felt the worst affect though when it dropped from 10 to 5mg, I felt like a MAC truck hit me. My rheumatologist put me back on 10 mg to help with the joint pain because I could hardly walk and it was interfering with my physical therapy so now I take 10 mg each day with 100 mg. of immuran. I encourage you to taper as slowly as possible, that will produce much less side effects, what happens is our pituitary gland gets lazy and doesn't produce the adrenaline as it normally would, so if they taper too quickly it can even be dangerous putting you into a adrenal crisis. I think because you are learning so much and have such a positive outlook you will do well because knowledge empowers us. I hope this was some help. Guest guest
This is definitely an issue to be guided by your psychiatrist. Talk to your prescribing doctor. In general, it is not as easy to switch from Paxil to Lex (or Celexa) as it is to switch from Celexa to Lexapro. They are very different formulations, whereas Celexa and Lex are similar formulations. Don't do it without your doctor's guidance. > If I were able to switch to Celexa or Lexapro, from Paxil, is it safe to just start taking the new medication or do I need to wean myself off of the Paxil first, before starting another med? Guest guest
Beverly, WOW I was wondering where you were. I am so glad you and your hubby are back to feeling better. Tell him not to be getting sick anymore! One of you sick at a time! You very well may have it a vein. You would also know right away if you did because the sides would hit you like a Mack Truck. If you are feeling worse than usual tomorrow, call your Dr. It's possible you only hit some of those capillaries that are close to the skin. I did that a few times myself over the yrs! It's good to see you back and posting. LeighAnn
