Guest guest
Ken, on the other hand had no trouble swallowing consciously up until the very day he died, but he drooled almost all the time for several years. He had lost the automatic swallowing reflex along with the blinking reflex and several others, but when told to do any of them, he had no trouble. it was not the inability to swallow that made him drool, it was the loss of the automatic reflex. On demand, he could swallow several pills at once and eat big hunks of steak. Barbara
Guest guest
This seems to mirror me exactly. Chewing gum makes swallowing more conscious and that helps. The inside of my mouth feels foul (that may be a social phobia), I can't smell too well, did your husband have bad breath (Itry to maintain distance just in case and use a minty gum.) some mornings I do wake up on a drenched pillow, other mornings my mouth and throat feel raw - suppose it matter whether or not I was upright enough and beathed through my mouth or nose. Blinking is harder to remember, until I can leterally 'hear' my eyelids close, then drops followed by intentional blinking clears it up.
