Guest guest
I rarely post but I am inspired to with the recent messages aboutshopping. I had WLS 23 mos ago. I have lost 184 lbs. I look and feelvery different. One of my greatest pleasures is shopping. Even when I could not walk,(arthritic knees due to obesity) I used my scooter to shop for myselfand others. The sales people would move aside the racks to help methrough. I love buying clothes! I bought for my sisters, daughter,daughter-in-law, neices, grandchildren. I love finding bargains, which I always do. I have patience to look. I only purchase if it isa good buy. Well, now I buy for ME. I can wear regular size clothes! The bargains are much better and abundant in the " regular " sizeclothes. I have never been a " regular " size before. I wore chubbysizes as a child. As a teen I wore misses or womens size. Then largeplus size. I am now " sz 12 petite " . I am having an uncontrollablegreat experience. I wear dresses, straight, long skirts, short andlong tops, sweaters, suits. I still have to wear flat shoes becauseof my bad knees (arthritis). I have discovered Ecco brand shoes. Theyare the greatest for comfort and support. I have always dressed up,no pants, no jeans, no sneakers. I dislike the casual/comfort look.It is okay for home or play, but I think thre are many places thatpeople should dress more appropriately instead of looking like theyjust came from the gym or working in the yard. I know there are alotwho disagree with me. I know that most people are treated nicer byothers when they are well-dressed. (I especially feel that large people should pay close attention to what theywear. They draw attention to themselves and their size by wearingclothes too tight, too big, too short or stained. There are nice skirts, sweaters, and long tops to be found at reasonable prices.) Is anyone else having trouble controlling your love for buyingbeautiful clothes that you could not wear before the weight loss? Howabout the good jewelry? My husband has been buying me beautifuljewelry for the past few years because it was the one thing he couldget that fit me. Now I am wearing it with all of my new clothes. Lifeas a smaller person is so much easier and more enjoyable. Thank Godfor WLS !!!!SheilaLap/RNY 10-5-00Dr Kelvin Higa
Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Yes, I can definitely relate! I just got home with my first pair of size 8 jeans. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would wear size 8 anything! Last winter, at about 8 months out I bought all size larges (14/16/18) and was thrilled to be able to wear normal sized clothes for the first time in way too long. This fall I'm already pulling out those larges, thrilled to be looking at buying smalls (8/10's)! I'm doing the thrift shops and consignment stores for now as the budget is tight and who knows.......maybe someday size 6's might be possible! Best wishes to all, , open rny 5/23/01, Dr. Alison Clarey, D.O., - 116 lbs so far! --------------------------------- Yahoo! - We Remember 9-11: A tribute to the more than 3,000 lives lost

I look good too in those tight shorts! In fact, this idiosyncracy runs to ALL my pants: if they ain't stretch, form-fitting, lycra, or whatever, I won't wear 'em. If I'm not in these kinds of pants, then it's flare shorts or scooter skirts, or dresses above the knee. And I used to avoid tee's like the plague, bcuz, y'know those knits show ALL the rolls of fat on your body. But with tee's about the only sensible thing for yoga class, and I'm in one 3 days a week, I'm wearing tee's with those snug-fittin' pants. I might look weird to others, but just don't care. The other 4 days of the week I'm at the indoor pool for water aerobics. Some- times I just throw a caftan on over the swimsuit; sometimes just pants an a blouse flying open in the front -- something I wud NEVER have considered doing in the past. Amazing how emboldened one becomes with a little success in losing weight. Carol A
Guest guest
The first 2-3 years, yes. But I only shopped in thrift stores. Still, they didn't stop me from having every cute thing in a 50 mi radius that was under $5. The day I realized it was an addiction, I stopped. If I NEED something, it's thrift stores first, but I can't just go into them for sport any more. Guest guest
In Optifast, one of the counselors mentioned that lots of people seemed to go into debt when they lost a great deal of weight. Compulsive shopping seemed to be a big problem. I know that I went broke following my surgery, but it had as much to do with medical problems as shopping. One of the things I like most about my new life is being able to go to " cheap " places like Value City and TJ Max for clothes!

I love my jeans, guess I'm a country girl at heart! From 2-1/2 years ago, when even Lane didn't have enough denim to cover my butt, I'm sitting here in my size 18's and LOVING it! And t-shirts -- the selection in 4X - 5X was decidedly limited, but I can go anywhere and get an XL. Still got a lot to lose (75 more pounds would be just about right and the smallest I would have ever seen as an adult), but just the fact that I can go almost anywhere and find clothes, that's good enough for me.
