Actually, I do, but I didn't know that...interesting. That's why I think

it's menopause related...those whacky old hormones! But, thank you for the

suggestion!

Ya know, I was wondering about that, but was afraid to take 2 together.

Maybe I should try it tonight when I have Sunday to recoup. And you don't

feel foggy when you wake up? I may just have to do that.

Thanks for your help!

***Yep, I fall out really fast, but even Tylenol PM did that.

Ya see, I had taken an ambien thinking that I had 30 minutes or so before it

kicked in. Putzed around getting ready for bed and next thing I knew I was

in the bathroom plucking my eyebrows. (sound familiar to anyone yet?) Well

I actually started hallucinating! I saw rows and rows of wrinkles on my

forehead and felt the need to post to EVERYONE in my address book that this

would happen to you when you were 2 years postop.

***Too funny! Do you still have eyebrows? :)

Ok, what my pcp has done now is put me on elavil and restoril. Elavil for

anxiety. You see, when I do wake up during the night I'm wide awake and my

worries immediately start on my brain again. So then I stress and can't

sleep.

***That happens to me too. If I take the 2 Ambien, and that doesn't work,

I'll ask my PCP about these. Thank you so much!

if you're having to double dose, have the doc write a prescription for the

double dose, then ins will pay for it.

If I am having trouble sleeping, I take 2 Benadryl, I'm out in 20 minutes :-)

Good idea, if he'll do that, but I don't know if a doctor would approve, not

because you might OD, but because you might abuse the stuff, if that makes

sense. As for Benadryl, it's no problem falling asleep, the problem is

staying asleep. I just might try the 2 pills tonight and see what happens.

Thank you,

Yes, that's the active ingredient in Simply Sleep. It does NOT, however,

contain any pain reliever.

The other ingredients listed are not active and are: cellulose,

croscarmellose, sodium, dibasic calcium phosphate, dihydrate, FD&C blue #1,

Hydroxypropyl, methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glyco,

polysorbate 80, and titanium dioxide.

> So, my question is have any of you taken sleeping pills with success,

and not the kind where you wake up with a hangover? I'm on the road a

lot for work, so feeling like a zombie is just not a good idea.<

I take Ambien...and need to take 2 before bed to get the right amount of

sleep. After a couple of nights, I don't need it anymore for a while.

I don't sleep well due to my depression...even tho the anti depressant

is working well, when I get anxious, or overworked, I cannot sleep.

Slept REALLY well, with no help, the week I was on vacation. Now, I am

back to not sleeping again, but cannot get my script filled till next

week. ONE of the drawbacks of having to double-dose is that you run out

faster.

I have to double-dose many meds..with my doc's knowledge in most cases.

The only thing I double-dose without telling her is like Tylenol.

(takes 4 to get any relief!)

If you aren't taking it constantly, you might ask about taking 2 before

bed, with your OJ. Or just try it one night and see if it works.

Ambien helps me a LOT...but like I said, I need 2 to do the trick. And

I do not wake up a zombie at all.

Remember, I am not a doctor...I just play one online. =o)

Well, this has been my experience with the world of sleeping pills. My DH

had been taking ambien for several years. It is a quick acting sleeping

pill but doesn't not work to keep you in a sound sleep all night. It's

function is to get you to sleep. Same with sonata. That's why you wake

after 2-3-4 hours.

I've taken both ambien and sonata and have found that they actually work

extraordinarily fast on me. Some of you may remember a post of my around

the holidays where I rambled on about absolute nonsense. Ya see, I had

taken an ambien thinking that I had 30 minutes or so before it kicked in.

Putzed around getting ready for bed and next thing I knew I was in the

bathroom plucking my eyebrows. (sound familiar to anyone yet?) Well I

actually started hallucinating! I saw rows and rows of wrinkles on my

forehead and felt the need to post to EVERYONE in my address book that this

would happen to you when you were 2 years postop. BTW, I didn't know I did

this until I had many alarmed messages in my mailbox the next morning. Then

I vaguely remembered :o)

Lesson learned from this....if I take sleeping pills.....I MUST BE IN BED

FIRST!!

Ok, what my pcp has done now is put me on elavil and restoril. Elavil for

anxiety. You see, when I do wake up during the night I'm wide awake and my

worries immediately start on my brain again. So then I stress and can't

sleep. Oh maybe doze but every time I wake up I start thinking and worrying

again. A side effect of the elavil is drowsiness so until the elavil

reached the proper levels in my blood I took both pills. Now I rarely take

the restoril (which can give you a sleeping pill hangover for a day or 2)

When I do wake during the night (potty calls) I don't obsess and worry and

fall right back to sleep.

Just my experience.....hope it helps!

Sue

PS and restoril is available as a generic drug so usually much cheaper than

ambien or sonata.

Hi All,

I could use some help :))

I haven't been able to sleep well for months. It's probably due to

menopause

(I'll be 50 in Sept.), and Tylenol PM just wasn't cutting it anymore. So, I

went to the doc, and got a prescription for Ambien 10mg.

Well, after 2 nights of taking it, and waking up at 4:30 AM, I had an

epiphany. I called the pharmacist, and asked him if he was familiar with

gastric bypass surgery. He said, " Um, uh, well...yes. " What that really

meant was I've heard of it, but don't know a thing about it. So, I briefly

explained about the bypassed intestine, and asked him if that's where it was

absorbed, and if that's why it wasn't working. He said, " Oh, no, it's

absorbed in the stomach. The stomach acid breaks it down. " RED FLAG!!!

Ok,

so I told him I don't have a full stomach with acid anymore. So, he tells

me

to maybe try taking it with something acidic, like orange juice. OK...

Next, I call my PCP (didn't tell him I spoke to the pharmacist), but did

mention that maybe due to the bypass, I wasn't absorbing it well. So, he

tells me to take 1 before bed, then if I wake up, to take another half pill.

So, I do both...I took it last night with OJ, then when I awoke promptly at

4:30, took another half. I dozed a little, but not good sleep until 6:30,

when I finally got up totally frustrated and just made my coffee. Needless

to say, I'm plain old exhausted.

So, my question is have any of you taken sleeping pills with success, and

not

the kind where you wake up with a hangover? I'm on the road a lot for work,

so feeling like a zombie is just not a good idea.

Thanks for any input!

AMEN AMEN and AMEN!!!

The first time I took it, I was thinking it was like Tylenol PM...and I

had about 30 - 40 min. to go to bed. NOPE! And I was a bit LOOPY too!

Staggered into the kitchen to get something to drink, and it was wild. I

now only take it when I am IN bed.

Oh...and one night...well...lets just say hubby remembered having a

GOOOOOD night. I have NO recollection of it...lol. Sure made HIM feel

less than adequate, but he jokes about slipping Ambien into my Diet

Soda....LOL.

That only happened the first couple of times taking it...now, I am IN

bed, and I am fine.

Hubby is dissappointed, though. =o)

I take ambien and the work great for me. I hallucinate and

everything, like legal acid or something. And I don't remember most

of what I see but I sure tell my family about it while I'm under.

One time I said I saw people dancing in the bottom of my glass and

then proceeded to tell them that " you can't see what I see " . I've

also offered to " fly over a gate " instead of waiting for someone to

move it over (a baby gate in the house to keep the dogs out of an

area) Yep, ambien works great for me. I feel like I slept like a

baby whether I did or not.

Ambien works GREAT for me (eh, Resa?) and only a half turns out my lights,

It's only sposta last 6 hrs, but that's not my problem. It's get the lights

to turn off in the first place. LOL!

About 1.5 yrs ago, I had trouble going to sleep AND staying asleep, like

you. My doc said I was depressed and I said he was nuts. WE argued about

this for months so I finally gave in & took some Welbutrin to prove him

wrong. Welllllll, suffice it to say that he cannot have them back, and now I

do sleep on through the night, once I get to sleep.

Scares me when my PCP is right!

:

I took Ambien a few month ago and it worked like a champ. Unfortunately

it almost led to divorce court the first night I took it. I took one

about 10-15 minutes before bed and when I got to bed, my husband was

shall I say, amorous, I fell asleep on him. The next morning he told me

that he didn't realize I had taken the spleeping pill and he tried to

wake me up and for a split second my eyes opened and I looked at him and

started looking around the room and then asked him " where's your wife " .

He told me this I was hysterical. I assured him that I wasn't having an

affair and if I were to have an affair that it certainly would not be

with a married man. I have my morals, they may be skewed at times, but I

still have them. LOL

The next time I took it, a friend of mine called and I literally fell

asleep on the phone with her. Knowing that I hadn't been feeling well,

she panicked because she tried for 45 minutes to get back to me and

there was no answer, so she called the police!!!! My husband had been

downstairs in his dungeon working on his computer and had no idea what

was going on until the banging on the front door, the cops with an

ambulance. They were very nice when Tim explained what probably had

happened and the EMT's finally woke me up (not an easy thing) and were

satisfied that I did not over dose. Needless to say, I don't take the

Ambien anymore. Can't imagine what would happen next. LOL

Sorry that you're having such a tough time, but worked a bit too well

with me. Hope you get some much needed sleep, I know how it is.

Regards,

Regina Block

Yes, it seems we are all on drugs. I am NOT alone!! LOL

I told my hubby (who is gonna have WLS too now!!! WOOHOOO!!!) that the

only reason I am happy he is having WLS is so that he can share his pain

meds with his loving wife. <>

Just kidding....

Sorta...

=oD

Hi all...

Many of you might remember me, many of you won't. I had WLS almost 3

years ago, have lost over 300 lbs, and am doing very well. Weight loss

has pretty much stalled unless I really push myself, but to be

honest...if I never lose another pound, I would still be happy. I am at

about 215 lbs or so, wearing 18's, and feel WONDERFUL! When you are 530

lbs for most of your life, 215 feels like Twiggy..lol. After all, I

didn't have WLS to fit into Calista Flockhart's wardrobe..I did it to

stay alive, so I have attained my goal.

My hubby has been hemming and hawing about having WLS for a while now,

and has been pursuing it for some time, but didn't want me to say

anything at first. He was afraid that he would change his mind. Well,

after we went on vacation, and he couldn't keep up with me, fell in the

surf at the Jersey Shore, and I hurt myself helping him up, and saw that

he was holding me back from doing all that I wanted to do (not that I

complained or said anything to him, mind you) he realized that being 425

lbs + and starting to physically feel every pound now was NOT what he

wanted.

He will have it early next year (our surgeon is VERY busy!) but that

will be fine. That way, I can take a couple of weeks vacation to help

him.

As for me, I am training for a job promotion, enjoying my new life,

being thrilled to be able to buy clothes anywhere, breathing, moving,

and living for a change. Sept. 10 is my 3 year anniversary, and just

the beginning of another new journey...helping my hubby on his own

journey to life.

Just imagine how our food bill will drop!! =o)

Just glad I can share this now...

Blessings,

Cindy Lou
