Guest guest
I was going to reply in private but I wish some people would answer this so II thought maybe I'd repost it with my inquiry as well.. I know (8 years and goal weight holding) and Judy (12 years and holding) and Felicia (4+ years and holding) -- all holding their goal weights by continuing use of their tools and protein supplements (and all different surgery types) but I too wonder about more longer terms -- are you holding, if you gained when and why? If your holding why do you think? And, I know their are some who are further out post who have medical reasons, not related to the surgery who haven't maintained the weight but by no fault or reason that is controllable -- a medical issue is just that and we do the best we can with what we've got -- but, for those without medical issues and longer term... what's the story? hugz, ~denise > I would like to know if you can keep the weight after 5 years? > How many pounds did you keep off? > If regained weight, how many pounds regained and why? > Thanks, > JJ

I had surgery almost 7 years ago (12/95), although I did have a revision for a SLD in 3/99 and a TT in 12/99. Does that count as 7 years or as just counting from 3/99??? If your holding why do you think? ***********As you may recall, I became protien deficient and severely anemic. I have been doing protein supplements since April now and haven't budged the scale - not one OUNCE, which from what I read, is surprising. Fox and Oh in Tacoma, WA in 12/95 and a revision by same in 3/99, and a tummy tuck by Fox and his PA assisting in 12/99. I feel because Dr. Fox is extremely knowlegeable about what he does and also about postop care for LIFE, is why I have maintained within 10 lbs. I was whining one day to the pt advocate at the office about the 10 lb weight gain, and she said it was VERY NORMAL for that, and just to keep doing the protein and supplements and no sugar or milk and I would probably not gain anymore. I'm crossing my fingers :-) B Folsom, CA 275/145/155 bounceback

Guest guest
I too am over three years out so I don't really qualify for your long term question. But in my mind three years or twelve years, it's the same. Welcome to the world of choices. After all, it's what we longed for ... to be normal. Well, we're here and have all the responsibilities of normal folks. It's all about choices - every single day. My Mom has been small to normal all her life and every day she chooses to eat right to maintain her weight. It's a personal choice to eat junk or take care of our nutritional needs. I personally have to recognize DAILY that food is not the center of my life. I eat to live and accept the responsibility that when I live to eat I am taking the chance of giving up my only chance to live normal. ===== judy in austin 5'9 " of wild Texas redhead SRVG 5/99 380 lbs Ext.
