Guest guest
Vera, There is definitely a cold bug going around out here as I and four people I know have it. Guest guest
Vera Some times don't you just wonder what it would feel like to have everything go right, just once?? My CPAP information is limited BUT I do know you can get humidifiers to go on the machines which allow them to breath and have moist air. I don't know much more than that but I'm sure some of our guys will jump in and let you know what to get. Hang in there (as if you could do anything else but that). I'm thinking of you and knowing just how you feel, unfortunately !! Hope things get better soon :>) Sally

Guest guest
Vera, I have been using a CPAP machine for about 8 months every night of the week. The one time I used it without a humidifier that came with the model I purchased, I was the same as Fred I felt very dry in the mouth the next morning. I suggest you ask the company who are supplying the CPA or Fred's doctor, whether they can also provide a humidifier. On my machine, it is like a jug which sits on a heater plate and I connect my hose from the top of the jug to my mask. The other thing Fred may find is that the mask annoys him or itches. The only thing that has worked for me is persistence. I still have nights were I discard it after an hour or two because it is annoying me. All the best with it, I hope I have been some help. Guest guest
Vera, It's a good thing you're a Pushy Broad, or Fred would never have gotten the CPAP and nebuilzer! Congratulations on being tenacious and making it happen. Rob has used the CPAP for years, and it did take him a while to get used to it. I agree with Sowter that the humidifier makes a big difference. There is a regular humidifier and a heated one -- the one described is the heated one. Rob has both, and the heated one is definitely better and he is able to use the CPAP for longer with is. BUT --- it's fairly expensive, so you'll have to put on your pushy broad cape again in order to get it. As far as getting a cold is concerned, the CPAP can't give you a cold -- a cold is cuased by a virus. But it can dry out the nasal passages and I know that at first Rob slept with his mouth open when he was getting used it, so it did dry him out. Don't push it too hard, just let him get over whatever he is feeling and have him try again. If you can get the humidifer, I think that will help. Also, it will take time to get used to so you shouldn't expect him to tolerate it all night from the beginnig. (You might want to try it on yourself. It's a pretty weird feeling!) Hang in there Vera!
Guest guest
Hi Carol: Yeap, I guess you see I still belong to the PBC . I guess some of us just have a life long membership to it, but I guess if that's what it take's then I'll have to do what I have to do. Right? I'm glad you got away for your trip. Fred wants to get to Vegas for One night and two days. So we go tomorrow. Not sure I want to drive that far (4 hours there and then another 4 hours back) and then not sure how Fred will do there with the smoke, but can't talk him out of it.Just hope it all works out ok. Guess I'll see if Bill's money is still there, that he left a few weeks ago. Just don't want to bring home the flu bug like he did. Will talk to you guys on Tuesday. Guest guest
My husband has used the C-Pap machine off and on since 1998. He does not like it. In fact, he hates it. He does not see nor understand how much calmer he sleeps when he uses it. He is a pro at getting it off of his face, but he can never get it on his face even when he was able to do so. He has little movement of any part of his body, but if I get up in the middle of the night to put the mask on him some times as many as 5-6 times, he can get it off. Once recently, I put the mask on him during the night, went to bathroom, five feet from his bed. When I returned to his bed to check him out, he already had it off. The VA provided us a mask with nose pillows that did nothing for the mouth, but we were unable to sue because he is a mouth breather and he must have the forced air through the mouth and nose. He complained and still does of the dry mouth. We did add a vaporizer that is designed to work with the cpap. In fact, the air from the cpap goes though the vaporizer prior to going to the patient. Good luck. Marilyn in TN

Guest guest
Marilyn : Glad you got to go to Honolulu. I know you asked me about Maui, but never did get around to see if you got there before. You know how that goes. I enjoyed it the one time, but I don't think I would go again. I'd love to see Alaska , New Zealand or out Annie's ways. Just doesn't look like it will be soon.
