When I had excruciating stomach pains, both times it turned out to be

small bowel problems. You can probably tell the difference between a

small bowel obstruction and an ulcer by your ability to eat and drink.

If you can eat and drink well, then an ulcer is more likely. If it is a

small bowel obstruction, heavy duty pain meds are not likely to help

because you will no be able to get them past the obstruction. There is

also the possibility of an intermittent SBO where the intestine slips

into and out of a crevice in the body. When it is in the crevice, it is

obstructed, but when it moves out, it becomes unobstructed. Hope it is

an ulcer, because that rarely requires a surgical correction. Good

luck!
