Guest guest
OH the topic of hypoglycemic reaction.. I too have this and was also a diabetic preop. For a long while I considered my Diabetes cured.. the last few months I've come to terms with the fact that my Diabetes is now in a " Diet Controlled " status. My surgeon told me some months back to push protein and I won't have these ups and downs. He is correct. The days I behave, avoid carbs and push proteins my sugar stays very level. My lows occur when I am not so careful and eat too many carbs. I have often wondered why doctors didn't tell me this preop maybe I could have had better control of my Diabetes then. I have an 8 yo stepson who is insulin dependent diabetic on a pump and I have recently started pushing protein for him.. not to the extreme I do, but he doesn't eat a lot of meat so I've been trying to give him cheese and protein bars for snacks as well as peanuts. Anyhow..protein really does make a difference for me !!
