Protein question

I went for my 1 year check-up yesterday (actually ended up being a 13

month check-up) and everything was good. I saw the nutritionist and she

told me to decrease my daily protein intake now that I am a year out.

She told me that we no longer need the high protein intake and that it

can actually cause a weight gain instead of a loss. Now, if my surgeon

had told me this, I probably might have questioned it, but since this

came from the nutritionist, I am now not sure what to do. My question

to you guys is should I continue to take in the higher protein amount or

should I follow the nutritionist and lower my protein intake? Have any

of you ever been told by your doctor or nutritionist that we actually

need to decrease our protein intake or is this something new?

I want to make sure to do what is best for my body and I certainly do

not want to start regaining the weight that I have lost so far (and I

still have some more I want to lose), but when a nutritionist tells you

to decrease, do you listen to her or not? She did ask me if I was still

taking Tums for my calcium and I told her that I had switched to a

citrate formula and she seemed to understand why and to be familiar with

it, so she obviously is up to date on things, which is why I am

questioning her telling me to decrease my protein intake.

I would love to hear from some of you about what you were told and

about what you have decided to do and why. I know that quite a few of

you do take the higher protein amounts and will continue to do so, but I

am curious if this could be a possible reason why so many long-term

post-ops have weight regain. Just a thought. Any info any of you can

supply me with would be much appreciated. I just want to make the best

decision to make sure to stay in good health.

Hugs,

Jerri in MI
