Guest guest
Gee Marge.... this sounds like me! I too can not tolerate many carbs. I have to keep them low or I sit and have a horrible time with sweats and nausea.... *sigh*..... no tolerance for sugar or very little.... I live on protein drinks, eggs, meats, veggies (low carb ones) , some crackers and no-sugar wafers or cookies that I've found that are low in carbs... but no fruit.... too high in carbs.... (boy, I sure miss my fresh peaches... *sigh*.... ). Is this common? Betty Re: Digest Number 1599 Barbara, I was also having similar problems with hypoglycemia until I went to all protein, no carbs, 3 meals a day only with ProScore protein supplements as snacks in between meals and SF/FF popsicles as a desert. If I feel a crisis coming on, I eat a protein bar that has at least 30 grams of protein with as low a carb count (3 carbs) as possible. I have learned to recognize the very instant that I start feeling funny and deal with it immediately. I also have to back away from too much stress, whether it is brought on by too much activity/exercise or mental stress. This seems to have put my Reactive Hypoglycemia at bay. Even having a piece of fruit is too much carbs for me. The side affects of this regime is that I have started loosing some weight again (I am about 25 pounds from Dr.'s goal but 40 from my personal goal). The only carbs I can eat that don't seem to affect me badly are the ones from green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, broccoli and squash. It seems like my body liked it when I was not eating carbs and now it is rebelling against my putting any into my system. Reminds me of when I first quite drinking coffee years ago and when I went back to it, I got diarrhea and headaches etc. The body really reacts strongly to things sometimes. Perhaps your body is still looking for Homo-stasis since the surgery and swung to much the opposite way from how it was when you were obese. Don't despair. God made our bodies to seek health and sometimes we react strongly to the search. Try finding middle ground as it sounds like you went hell-bent for election on getting back into life so quickly. I'm sure the endo doc will be able to help you. Good luck, Marge P.S. There is a group for Reactive Hypoglycemics if you want to check it out. hypo@... http://www.Sanddancr.com/SandCastleFarm
