Well I suppose this makes about as much sense as those smokers suing the

tabacco companies.

Kind of along those same lines, did everyone hear about the overweight guy

who has filed a lawsuit against McD's and other fast food establishments

because they should not have served him?? His argument is that they should

have been able to tell by his size (280 lbs) that he was obese and that to

allow him to purchase their fatty foods was damaging his health and so he

should have been refused service??

What ticked me off about this is the fact that all the commentary when this

was reported on the news was about how fat people should get a grip and

exercise some self-control.....when the REAL issue should have been how this

ONE PERSON, because of his " issues " , has once again made fat folks out to be

the bad guys, always looking for a way to blame someone else for their

obesity and not taking care of their own bodies...This one person has caused

us all to take a giant step back in how we are (were) viewed by

society....SIGH. Why did no one point out that this guy was probably just

looking for someone to sue??? If he had been thin he might have picked on

his gym for " allowing " him to exercise too much and risk his health by

becoming too thin....or if he was too " dark " he could have sued his tanning

salon for allowing him to tan and risk skin cancer....the point is, he

obviously is looking to make a quick buck by suing " someone " with deep

pockets. In doing so, he has made fat folks everywhere once again the butt

of jokes and derogatory comments in the media. I'd like to kick his ass.

Rita, thanks for posting this.

He explained in the article that he was motivated to get a gastric bypass

for

image reasons, not health reasons. Here's some text from the article:

One GM explained the problem: " Bottom line, it shouldn't matter. But the

head

coach is somebody who is always out front with the media in the NFL, and

with

the alumni and the media in college. Image is part of it, but there are some

guys who believe it's a reflection of self-discipline. How can you demand

self-control from players when you don't have it yourself? It could be

symptomatic of some other issues. "

Again, we are told that the reason that we are fat is some sort of deep

character flaw. The idea that we are all undisciplined, lazy pigs with no

self control is so offensive. Aaauugh!

I wouldn't go back to my old life for anything in the world, but I was a

good, responsible person then and my employer was lucky to have me. As I

get

smaller, I become more intolerant of prejudice against fat people. No one

should think they need to have their innards rearranged for a job. It

should

be because they think they'll be healthier.

I find this type of lawsuit just incredible, and agree this guy needs a swift

kick in the behind.

However....I know a whole lot of fat people, and I agree, they should get a grip

and exercise more self-control in making better food choices. I was one of

them. There are certainly a small number of obese people who became obese

eating a healthy, balanced diet with no processed foods, etc. etc., but many of

us made bad choices and could have done better.

Can you imagine the furor that woulda been raised if some well-mannered 18

y/o assistant mgr. at Mc's had said, " I " m sorry sire, but we must

refuse your $2.89, because obviously you have overindulged. "

OH YEAH, the lawsuit woulda happened by 4pm that day!
