milk thistle for liver function

I am wondering about the use of milk thistle for liver function. My last

blood work showed some of my liver enzymes elevated. For anyone here who

takes milk thistle, or has taken it, how much do you take per day? And,

what kind of results have you seen after taking it for a while?

Thanks, Lynn

I've been taking milk thistle for about 2.5yr. when mine were discovered to

by high after a blood donation. after we ruled out 8 or so various forms of

hepatitis and had a liver biopsy too and every thing was fine I started on

the milk thistle. my alt and ast liver enzymes were above 300 at the time.

the only dose of milk thistle I ever see is 175mg. so thats what I take.

over time I have gotten my ast back to normal and my alt is just slightly

over normal.

at one point about a year ago I had them very close to normal so I stopped

taking the milk thistle and within a few months they were rather elevated to

nearly 100 again.
