Re: What's a realistic goal?

I think that body size / weight-in-proportion to height, and so on, have

to be taken in perspective. Those of us who have never been under 200 pounds

as adults cannot imagine weighing 125 pounds, so we tend to see it as an

unrealistic goal. I think this is especially true for those of us who

started in the high 300's and above. We are thrilled to pieces to see 200

and under. But someone who HAS lived at that weight in their adult life, and

who felt truly comfortable there, will not feel comfortable weighing even

145 instead. What looks like " too thin " to many of us, feels just right to

someone else, and perhaps the physician in charge can see this clearly,

where we can't.

When I look at the charts for healthy weight for me, I see that the goal I

have set for myself (155) is still considered overweight. But I have been

over 200 pounds since I was 14 years old, and I'm 47, so the thought of

being a skinny size 8 just isn't in my mindset. Which is not to say it's

impossible -- it's just impossible for me to see on ME -- and I am 5'5 " also

We have to remember that each person's self-image, health, and experiences

are different, and validate each person's feelings of what is right for them

We may not be able to identify with how they feel, but that does not take

away their right to feel it.

Just my 2¢ -- and I hope Betty is still here.
