(ly, since that is basically the RDA for protein, I'm just not sure how they figure we should take in the same given our malabsorption). In order to maintain normal protein levels in my body, I need to take in approximately 120 grams of protein daily, with at least half of that via supplements. Guest guest
I've heard 60 grams per day...that was what the doc said to shoot for after surgery. I understand serious bodybuilders have up to 1 gram per pound of body weight. If you've had anything longer than a proximal, you may need more than average, but it's a personal thing. I personally think it's important to eat bulky animal protein since this fills us up and keeps the pouch full longer. Guest guest
> > just how much protein are we to have daily? Does anyone really know?<< I don't think there is one right answer except the " one " that works for you... so far, my labs have shown for " me " that 120 grams minimum daily via supplements keep MY protein levels steady and normal... but, the next person who may have the near exact surgery as me may only need 60 grams and the next may need 180 grams -- I think it is just a totally individual thing about what keeps your blood levels good for you... that just takes time and tweaking -- and even though that amount is right for me " today " in 6 months it could easily change. No two people are alike when it comes to supplements which IMO is why we need to get our tests done, done often, track the changes in our bodies, life styles and compare our own numbers to learn what is working for us... at the same time realizing that by the next tests it could change... so, being diligent about our health care is so important for our life times. I used the 1 gram of protein for every 1 pound I wanted to weigh during my weight loss period -- that got my levels up and my weight to my goal... I maintain on the same basic " thought " only now I have really heavy work out days (that doesn't always mean at the gym... it could mean heavy yard work, grass cutting, weeding, followed by house work, running and playing and so on...) those days require a LOT more protein (fuel for energy for me) than days when I'm strapped down in one spot working all day.... less energy needed for that. I do try to get most of my " fuel " from protein but strongly believe in a healthy amount of carbs and fats too for balance. Still, that's only what worked for me and works for me now -- subject to change depending on my blood work... My surgeons office recommends 30 grams a day from food or shake or a combination of both. I'm 5' 6 " 125/130 (that's a gain the last 2 months) female, 41, 12 " proximal, 2 years/2 months post op... the gain has been a direct result of hand to mouth disease :-( that I'm working hard to correct. hugz, ~denise

Guest guest
" know " as in matches = fire? No, I don't think so. There are rules of thumb, MANY sized thumbs. I've always gone with a basic 60g for any human. And then graduate up from there according to how much wt you want to lose, muscle you want to retain or build, skin you want to keep tight, etc. I have to go by what holds my lab levels, minimum, pLUS what makes me feel good. m How much protein is recommended daily? > Hello everyone.... How much of it goes to our muscles and our heart (a muscle also). Well, I can tell you, VERY little! I did the " animal protein " for years (6 1/2 years out) and crashed and burned... now I do my protein shakes... Live and Learn!
