Well, how about a Grad list convention? It could be a long weekend type of

thing, but in all fairness, would probably have to be somewhere in the middle

of the country. Whaddaya think?

I think it would work great but should be located in a " resort " type of

place so it would be like a mini-vacation... many place's have much cheaper

air fares than other places as well as (I'm thinking Vegas even though I'm

not real fond of it...) the hotels and cheep, the food is cheep and the

airfare is always low -- but -- there are other places as well that have all

the same features... geographically it wouldn't have to be the " middle " of

the country but an inexpensive but fun destination.

Anyone here a travel agent?

The airlines often have discounted rates to certain destinations and I'm

not sure what that is based on... just that it is so...

A convention of this magnitude would take some really organized people to

put it together but I am sure with enough pre-notification a lot of people

would love to do something like this.

Vegas is a great idea. You're right, they usually have some great

package deals. The only down side I can think of is the travel

time. Any of the coasts (or near the coasts) require a full 2 extra

days just for travel from the other side of the country, and some

people may have a hard time getting the extra days off. But, I

agree, a resort area is the best idea, especially for those that want

to make a full vacation out of it, and for the variety and prices of

hotels and restaurants...something for everyone's tastes and

pocketbooks.

Anyone else want to throw some ideas out there?

I love the idea of Vegas, but the casino/hotels are not conducive to group

activities. In fact, that's where one of my last business meetings was

where they wanted us to not congregate after the official stuff. Branson

sounds good. It would probably be the only time I'd ever go there.

A cruise ship is not a reasonable alternative, but if there was a place that

had the same kind of diversion all in one place. Places where people could

meet and visit casually and maybe together for meals or something. Maybe

some kind of resort on a lake kind of thing. I dunno'

Sign me up for the Branson venture. Sounds like the " cat's britches " of a

an idea to me! I just wonder, do the major airlines fly into there? I have

never been there so I dunno either. Spring? Early Summer?

That's what I was thinking, Spring or early Summer. Also, just out of

curiousity, I did a search for airfares from Newark to Branson (it

brought up Springfield with no direct flights) in May, 2003. From

the United or American Airline sites, the price averaged about $350

per person round trip, then from Orbitz.com, the same flights started

at $269...quite a difference, but the seasoned travelers would know

where to get the deals, I'm sure.

florida - cheap, off season. lots of grads there to plan it. they've tried

it twice already so maybe three is the charm.

actually dr. carolyn and I talked about this over the weekend and neither of

us have had the time yet to set up a poll on the web site to see what type

interest there would be - actual people who would want to attend. neither of

us wanted to be bombarded with emails or bog the list down with such. if

someone wants to set up a poll - go for it.

The idea of Branson just immediately appealed to me because it is so

centrally located. Another central more metropolitan area with good access

and accomodation might due just as well. I had not thought about a

coordinating committe locally, good idea tho!

Sounds like fun. Austin is middle of the country.

I'd be happy to organize it if everyone wants to come here!
