Guest guest
I have had problems with sleep since my weight loss surgery in 10/99. I used to be able to sleep through the night, no problem, even if I fell asleep on the couch for an hour and then got up to go to bed. Now if I get that hour on the couch, I'm up for at least another 4 hours. It's awful. Also, having a problem with my back. I like to sleep on my stomach and I wake up at least 15 times a night with my low back screaming in pain. I roll back over on my side and go back to sleep, (sometimes I'm able to, other times I'm up for hours) only to flip over on my stomach again and wake up in agony again. The mattress is only two years old and we bought a really, really good one. Only place I seem to be able to sleep through the night is on the couch, so once a week I sleep the entire night there. Even if I take something to help me sleep so I can sleep in ed, the pain in my back wakes me up and I wander around for hours. The only good thing is that my laundry is all caught up and my bathroom and kitchen floors have never been cleaner. TV, books, nothing helps me get back to sleep. Just resigned myself to the fact that this is how it's going to be. Never had back problems before the weight loss. Has anyone developed anything similar to this? Guest guest
Oh good ideas. I slept much better when I used the body pillow suggested by the rheumatologist (9.99 at Sears). We were appalled at having our " bed buddy " at first, but Don already HAD a bad knee, and our " bad " parts compliment each other, so we can share it. Even a small pillow can help tilt the hips so they don't ache. If you do you may be putting extra strain on your back because you are bending your neck up. I sleep much better without one when I sleep on my back or tummy. > > Also if your chest is large, when you lay on your tummy you may be putting a strain on your back. > > You might talk to an exercise physiologist or a chiropractor about excercises that you can do to strengthen your lower back. Yoga might help also. Your back shouldn't hurt if the spine is in proper alingment when you sleep. > > When we loose weight the muscles we used to use to support our selves may not be the same ones used anymore.
