Guest guest
One of the best things I learned from my dieting classes was " environmental control. " If it ain't in the house at night, chances are I'm not going to leave the house to get it. I realize with kids, this might be a bit of a problem, but I'm not sure how " real " of a problem it is. When I was an overweight kid, my Mom commented that I wasn't getting fat on what she was giving me at home. Kids can always find good junk if they want it. But, I could never, ever resist cookies that were actually in my house. That's asking too much. That's the only part I can really relate to...... If I buy cheese at the store, I buy a piece knowing it's going to be *completely* consumed in only 2 days. Just my $.02 in Austin RNY April 1998 Eating Idea's... thoughts.... Guest guest
I fill my house with every food I love and whatever my family wants as well. Don't label it good or bad . . .In the beginning there was lots of junk and I ate it too. After time I gradually moved away from foods that didn't make me feel energized, light and energetic. I don't eat much junk because it doesn't help me feel good. I even learned to quit saving food for later as I only like freshly made food or home leftovers. I am almost 4 years post op and getting over the junk and eating it in spite of feeling bad took a couple of years . . .2 1/2 to be exact. As soon as I got over the junk, the last 20 pounds fell off and that was after my 3 year anniversary. I realize this isn't average or common. It did work for me because I am such a rebel and rule breaker therefore I made none. BTW, I naturally eat more protein and fresh veggies, some fruit, very few carbs . . . and , it would have been easier without kids, cause half the stuff I had to learn to dislike was there for them! ) Vicki > One of the best things I learned from my dieting classes was " environmental > control. Guest guest
And I want something to chew with my protein shakes sometimes so if you find a " free " , crunchy, chewy, food please share. I have been really good about the no eating and drinking thing but there are just times that I really, really want to chew with the shake (no, not lumps in the shake. I can't do the hairy prevert thing yet!). Carrots are sometimes the thing that I think the most about but I admit that sometimes it's biscotti or shortbread and I really don't even like sweets. Guest guest
> , > When did you have your surgery? How much have you lost? Regained? Where are you now? > se Open RnY (proximal, 12 " ) Lost 140 lbs to 120 lbs, maintained for about 15 months, had an eating binge and gained about 14 lbs, the needle is edging down to a loss of 5 lbs so I'm still over at 9lbs and trying to let it come off naturally by getting my eating / shake / habits back under control as well as my water and exercise along with lowering my daily stress level (that's been the hard part.. stress) I'm 5' 6 " , wear a 4 in most stuff (was a 26) my 2 year blood work was good except my iron was high -- will retest in 4 months to check the iron thing. My DEXA was average for 41 yr old woman (not menopausal) I think I began the struggle and slipped into the bad habits when Kindergarten started and pre-that time... mostly stress related and I tried to switch protein brands and began adding stuff to them (sf puddings and such -- big mistake for me) Anyway, I've got it back on-track now, things back under control and doing what works for me -- My purpose in the e-mail was to " see " for myself in writing some of the changes I've had to make to keep myself from getting into trouble again and to see others ideas on what they do to help them stay on-track... last time I weighed I'm still 9lbs over my goal, jeans are still fitting really tight (which beats a couple of weeks ago when they didn't zip at all...) My " life " goal is 2 part -- optimal health and good habits -- and learning to be " steady " ... staying one size (not the up and down of the past) staying satisfied... not full, not hungry... just in the middle... not incorporating any drastic measures (the temptation now / or the thought process... is to loose an extra 5lbs so I can gain it back over the winter months without worry.... BAD thoughts for me...) Just " staying " in one place and being healthy doing it. I'm looking a lot at the stress right now and attempting to get some of the balls out of the air by completing projects and getting back to a manageable zone... just part of the over all " steady " process in all things. I think the word " balance " is what I'm striving for... what I wanted from the start and what I want to keep -- balance. hugz, ~denise
