Guest guest
Mike : You have helped and I'll look into the humidifier for Fred when we go to the doctor. I'd like to ask him now, but the doctor is on vacation and it will have to wait. Is your CPAP set to a pressure setting and if so how much? The doctor feels Fred needs his at 11 . I don't know maybe Fred will be like you said not be able ever to wear it the whole night, I guess I just shouldn't worry so much. Thank you for the help Vera ******************************* Subject: Re: CPAP & Nebuilzer Vera, I have been using a CPAP machine for about 8 months every night of the week. The one time I used it without a humidifier that came with the model I purchased, I was the same as Fred I felt very dry in the mouth the next morning. I suggest you ask the company who are supplying the CPA or Fred's doctor, whether they can also provide a humidifier. On my machine, it is like a jug which sits on a heater plate and I connect my hose from the top of the jug to my mask. The other thing Fred may find is that the mask annoys him or itches. The only thing that has worked for me is persistence. I still have nights were I discard it after an hour or two because it is annoying me. All the best with it, I hope I have been some help. Guest guest
Marilyn: I guess you have had your hands full also. Strange how they can do one thing, but not something else. I don't know Fred may end up like your husband and not like the CPAP. Only time will tell. Fred has always been one that likes things to work right off and if it doesn't then he won't use it. All we can do is try huh? Take Care of yourself. Did you ever get to Maui? I know you said that you wanted to make it there. I hope that you did. Let me know. He does not see nor understand how much calmer he sleeps when he uses it. He is a pro at getting it off of his face, but he can never get it on his face even when he was able to do so. He has little movement of any part of his body, but if I get up in the middle of the night to put the mask on him some times as many as 5-6 times, he can get it off. Once recently, I put the mask on him during the night, went to bathroom, five feet from his bed. When I returned to his bed to check him out, he already had it off. The VA provided us a mask with nose pillows that did nothing for the mouth, but we were unable to sue because he is a mouth breather and he must have the forced air through the mouth and nose. He complained and still does of the dry mouth. We did add a vaporizer that is designed to work with the cpap. In fact, the air from the cpap goes though the vaporizer prior to going to the patient. Good luck. Marilyn in TN

Guest guest
Vera, I don't recall exactly, but I think my CPAP is set to a pressure of 10 or 11. I obviously don't know Fred, but what helped me to get used to the CPAP is not fighting it, trying to relax and working to get used to having it on. It is a little hard, but I remind myself without it I am risking damaging my heart, because of the problems Obstructive Sleep Apnea can cause. I also must admit that it took me around three months to go and get the CPAP, because I had trouble mentally accepting I had to have it for the rest of my life. I found that pretty daunting and perhaps Fred has similar feelings. The other thing is that since I have persisted, my daytime fatigue has decreased and I generally feel a little better in terms of my overall endurance. I still have good days and bad days, but I really think if Fred gives it a fair go, he may get some real benefit from it. By the way, probably five out of seven nights I wear the CPAP throughout the night until I get up in the morning, so you can learn to get used to it. All the very best to Fred and yourself and good luck with CPAP. Regards Mike --- FVJAMES@... wrote: > Mike : > You have helped and I'll look into the humidifier > for Fred when we go to the > doctor. Guest guest
Mike: Thanks for getting back to me on the pressure and other things about the cpap.I'll let Fred know about what you said about feeling better during the day since using it. I think that is why he doesn't do well during the day, because he doesn't sleep well at night. His nebuilzer seems to be helping with his breathing during the day. Now we just got to get him use to the CPAP.
