Guest guest
Dear Gaylene -- Xanax also makes me sleep, but the doctor prescribed it to me to help allieviate some of my mood swings during PMS. I don't take the medication that often, and I know that I will sleep for hours within 20 minutes after taking it. It evens me out a bit so the mood swings are not as pronounced, and it gives me space to get a grip on myself. My PMS mood swings are not anxiety attacks... Years ago, I did suffer from bouts of panic attacks. I was given Klonopin, which did help. I was also taking Zoloft and Ambien too, because I was trying to survive a prolonged bout of depression after some major losses in my life. Zoloft, Paxil or Prozac really are not effective in helping you deal with anxiety attacks. After I was off the medications, I would still suffer from occasional panic attacks. Once I was aware of what they were, I was able to ride them out with deep breathing exercises, and some quiet time. I know this doesn't work for everyone, and I am thankful there are medications that can help us along the way on those occasions where we need it. I am sure others will also have some very good suggestions as well. Keltie GayleneCo@... wrote:Hi Everyone, I don't post often at all, but do read almost everything. I have a question that I need some help with. I started having panic attacks. They are horrible. My doctor tried to put me on Paxil and it made my entire body tremble. I mean shake rattle and roll. It was awful. Then he tried 25 mg of Zoloft for 7 days and upped it to 50 mg after that. This also made me tremble and shake. Does anyone here know of a medication for panic attacks? I have Xanax for when they are bad, but I just sleep when I take them. Thank you, Gaylene ---------------------------------
Guest guest
While coping with the wound complication from hell, I asked for a Psychiatrist. One was kind enough to visit me in the hospital, on a Sunday. He took me off Paxil and gave me Xanax. It works for anxiety and depression. Have you been seeing a Psychiatrist, or a regular family doctor? I'm wondering if a specialist in Psychiatry might be more able to understand the problem? Maybe he could figure out what makes you shake and get you on something that will control the anxiety without causing that problem?
Guest guest
I suffered from panic attacks for several years, about 10 years ago. My doctor treated me very effectively with clonazepam, or klonopin, which is a longer, slower-acting drug similar to xanax, but without the immediate effect you're talking about. It builds up in your bloodstream. in Austin RNY April 1998 Re: another antidepressant question > > Dear Gaylene -- > > Xanax also makes me sleep, but the doctor prescribed it to me to help allieviate some of my mood swings during PMS. Guest guest
I also take Klonopin for panic attacks. I used to take quite a bit, but I'm down to 1 in the morning and 2 at night. the one in the morning doesn't make me too sleepy and if my anxiety has been somewhat controlled I just take 1/2. I figure I can always take the other half if the first doesn't help. Paxil and Zoloft and in the Prozac family and cause many people to shake. I tried Ativan or Xanax I don't remember which one and it actually increased my anxiety. My husband takes Seroquel for his anxiety. What I like about the Klonopin is that I do not feel drugged when I wake up in the morning. I had a horrible panic attack yesterday, but I was in a bad car accident a couple of weeks ago, and I was driving and my therapist said I probably was having flash backs. When I first started out with panic/anxiety disorder, it took quite a while for the meds to take affect. Don't give up. If one doesn't work, try something else. You may want to see a psychiatrist because they are more familiar with these types of meds than PCP's. Sometimes it takes a combination of a couple of drugs to get the effect you need. Good luck. in akron hwd112 hwd.hwd@...> wrote: I take Klonopin for panic attacks - sometimes 1/2 a pill is enough to calm me down. They work pretty quickly. The whole pill makes me a little sleepy, but if I need to, I take it. Helene GayleneCo@... wrote: > Hi Everyone, > > I don't post often at all, but do read almost everything.
