Guest guest
I have a question to ask that I have not seen mentioned on this site in the past 6 mos that I have been reading the posts. Do any of you have lumps under the skin? I have lost 180 lbs in 21 mos and have not had any reconstruction surgery yet. I have lumps on my arms, stomach, and thighs. When I rub across these areas using pressure, it feels like many marble size lumps that move with the loose skin. I have not asked my surgeon about them. I think they are fat deposits. Reminds me of the yellow lumps of fat under the skin of chicken pieces when you clean them. But, am I the only one who has them? I am also experiencing more wrinkles on my face. Yes, I know I am aging every day but these seem to be more prominent since weight loss. Or have I just reached the quick aging time of my life? (50's) Don't get me wrong, I love the new me and I will take whatever comes with the loss. Wouldn't go back to the old, super morbidly obese me, for " all of the tea in China " or the smoothest baby skin on earth. Guest guest
I am 15 months post-op, have lost 108 pounds and have been plagued by dry skin for about 6 months. My skin actually looks like crepe paper in some places. I still have 60 pounds to go (give or take). If anyone has any suggestions about relieving the dry skin, which does not itch, by the way, I would very much appreciate it. >From: sabaroni@... >To: Graduate-OSSG >Subject: Re: Digest Number 1540 >Date: Wed, 24 Jul 2002 12:24:55 -0400 (EDT) > >I have a question to ask that I have not seen mentioned on this site in >the past 6 mos that I have been reading the posts. >Do any of you have lumps under the skin? Guest guest
Lumps under the skin? I have them in my hip and rear end area. The surgeon said that they were lipomas. Said removing them would be more trouble (and more painful) than was worth the effort. Just my 2 cents! Guest guest
I think I posted about this before, but here is what my surgeon has me do. Because of the way we eat our diets become very low in (here's where I get confused, but it doesn't make much difference) either saturated or unsaturated fats. The good part is that our triglycerides usually go way down but the bad part is that we get very, very dry skin. Now we all know how to take care of our skin. For sure we had a job of it at our highest weights. We all have lotions, oils, beads, rubs and scrubs. The simple fix for this (according to my surgeon) is to add a tablespoon of CORN OIL to our food once a day. No more, no less. You can add it to your protein supplement, drizzle it on your salad, add it to your yogurt....whatever. I've seen a difference in as little as a week. It's worth a shot! Guest guest
Don't know about lumps. Wrinkles. Ahhh, these I know. Wen we first reach goal. we ARE saggy and that's all. We usually can't see it ourselves, but then we can in pix. I look 15 yrs older at this same wt in 1995 as I do today. I was only doing 60g protein supps in those days, too. Since I continue to age, BUT I continue to increase my protein supps, one wonders if there is a correlation. My actual skin is smoother than it was then (?). Gravity happens, of course, but the tiny fine wrinkles I saw then...... where are they? Is it time for new glasses? Or was it just time + protein that tightened everything up? Guest guest
The first 4 things that come to mind. how much in protein supps do you get? how much dry form vit E are you taking? how much water are you getting? are you avoiding fats/oils? Guest guest
How much fat are you getting into your diet? YOu may need to add some more. My skin did that too when I restricted fat too strenuously. Also keep hydrated. Both those things are very important for healthy looking skin. Rasley mailto:drasley@... My face is MUCH less wrinkled looking than at 10 months postop when I reached the weight where I would be staying! Not that I don't still want a face lift someday -- I do -- but there has been an amazing difference.
