Guest guest
Dear , How interesting that you would post this today.. I had the same exact reaction yesterday morning at work.. I became dizzy, had a weird flushing sensation, and felt as if I was gonna pass out.. I took a break, went to the break room, and sat down for a bit.. I couldnt get OJ so got a regular soda and drank a little.. I know .. brown liquid, sugar, caffeine.. and got to feeling a bit better, although I do stay cold all the time as I approach my goal weight. I began to feel this way again, so decided that maybe my blood sugar was out of whack and ate a couple peanut butter crackers that I had in m purse.. After about 15 min, I was feeling ok again.. But, boy was that a scary feeling. I was told that the vitamin K oral supplement that I need to take can cause flushing, so at first , I thought the flushing sensation was from the vitamin k.. I am deficient in this vitamin . and I spent a couple days emailing back and forth trying to determine why I would be deficient in this particular vitamin .. she didnt know of any other bypass patients with the same deficiency. However, after much research, I learned that the vitamin k is absorbed through the ileum .. and I had three feet of intestines removed ,due to being damaged from peritonitis in 2001 , during my last revision in Feb 2002. The part of my intestines that were damaged were the parts that contain the ileum so that explains my deficiency to me.. I am guessing that as we near our goal weights, our bodies are trying to normalize and we feel colder, and our blood sugars fluctuate more.. is this correct? Yesterday, I got up as usual, had collagen protein , took my iron and Vit C, got a shower, got dressed for work, made a protein shake.. got a bottle of water ready with more collagen protein, made 1/2 turkey sandwich.. and left to go to work.. I ate 1/4 or better of the sandwich on the way to work.. so my blood sugar didnt drop dramatically due to no fuel on board.. Still trying to figure this one out so it doesnt happen repeatedly at work, anyways.. Thanks for your awesome help and information.. I rely on the longer posties like , you , Sue to keep me in line..and correctly informed. Guest guest
Jacque, I went through about a 6 month period post reaching my goal -- while my body was learning the " maintaining " part where I stayed seriously COLD almost all the time -- with intermitened hot flashes -- for me, what had happened was my body was making the " adjustments " in my blood sugar levels. My heat and cold, then colder, then less cold and then a heat wave, dizzy, weird feeling -- anyway... mine was related to the foods I ate / shakes / food / and so on... I too contacted my surgeons office about it and they were not concerned. Told me to drink a bit of orange juice when I got really cold and to check for high carbs or fats in my foods when the heat flashes would come. It did pass once my body adjusted to its new life but it took time.... I guess my body was trying to figure out exactly what it was supposed to be doing now... I was a bit underweight too but decided the weight was fine after a while and decided it was good to stay at the weight I was at (it really wasn't underweight... just on the lower end of the scale of normal) Anyway, I kept my weight " as is " and my body adjusted to this size and now it has adjusted to what I feed it too... my body temperature will still change slightly more than a normal persons when I eat something low-end carb but I use that more as a reminder NOT to do that. As the body fat that I had left moved around and got back into the places it belonged and the longer everything had to " level out " the more normal my body temp became. It is good to check out anything medical that could be going on with your body temp because it could well be a medical thing that needs medical attention -- but, if it isn't -- just wanted you to know I went through a phase like that too. It was worse for about 4 months and then noticeable for the next 2 months but has been pretty stable now for well over 1/2 a year or so.... hugz, ~denise
Guest guest
If I sent this before...sorry... said I sent a blank..and this may be the one. Oops. Regards~ Jacque Thanks ... I think I will check with my doc on this...never thought it was anything important. But it seems to be getting worse rather than better. I'm nearly 27 mos post...and should have adjusted by now. I have had a couple of moments when I have been warm enough...but that has been in the car...with the windows rolled up...in the August heat...that isn't right. I am past hot flashes now...being 59 years old..and blood work shows I am post menopausal. I'll mention it to my doc at any rate. Thanks again!
