Guest guest
A man I work with was off on sick leave/disability last year. He had been diagnosed with 's (I voiced to a couple of people that his early symptoms were a lot like Ned's) but about 4 or 5 month's down the road, he found he had been totally misdiagnosed. There was something with his thyroid and something else causing confusing symptoms. After a " correct diagnosis " his condition turned around and he is now back to work. I'll try to see Bill (coworker) on Monday and see if he will share any info. I know when he first returned to work he did not want to talk about it, but that may have changed now (plus I don't know him too well as I had only worked at that company for a few weeks before he went off on leave). I'll let you know if I hear anything. Good luck. Judy & Ned B.
Guest guest
when I first had symptoms of parkinsonism, I was checked out for 's disease. I have low caeruloplasmin, which is a protein containing copper. . . Anyway, it was not ruled out until I had the liver biopsy. I was actually hoping it was 's because it is treatable with zinc supplements. It can be very dangerous, sometimes presenting with liver failure from the accumulation of copper. Or, it presents with neurological problems from the accumulation of copper in the brain, usually presenting at the age of 20-30 years old, but, forty and fifty year-olds happen. 's occurs 1:30,000 so, it is rare. It is genetic, and the gene has been localized, and defined. I think the rate of occurrence of the heterozygote is 1:90. I saw a paper that speculated that some forms of parkinsonism were associated with being a 's heterozygote. I still wonder about that. . . and the only way to tell would be an individual genetic analysis. I am now being checked out for MSA. I hope of things work out for your dad. Guest guest
Hi Dawn Rose, I'm having a dumb moment here - which part of my eye is the cornea? I have a grey ring around the iris of my eye - my eyes always used to be all brown, but now are green and brown with this grey ring. Could that be what you are talking about at all??? I'm looking at some of the symptoms and of course a few of them fit. Or as my husband likes to say, stop being a hypochondriac Pam... At anyrate, I found this great list of foods that contain copper: http://www.wilsonsdisease.org/copper.html Jody, this isn't the same s syndrome thing you were looking at awhile ago, is it??? Pam B.
