Guest guest
I have Zone Alarm which is free program, and I just upgraded to the Preminum Package over a year ago. I also have Norton Virus protection. Has worked great. Shirley "I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly" -- Virus Attemps BillI have just finished 4 days of playing with the JS/Exploit-BackCSS virusand I'm plenty upset with McAfee for not having what I needed in plainprint so I could have taken care of it more easily. Ironically, I hadjust dropped my firewall because it was really making a mess of mycomputer due to problems beyond my control. I had stop using it severalmonths ago but the fee time just expired the first of April.Coincidence?? Just my luck!!After doing some searching for something I needed and checking at least50 web sites, my Office programs wouldn't work right. It locked up andI had a small mess but managed to get things done. Ran my virus checkerand surprise, I had it. It only attaches to the machine from aninfected web page and the only way to clean it is to go back and trackit and delete the files it messed up. They were just temporary filesfrom the net so no problem but it took me 2 days to get a clear answerfrom McAfee about what needed to be done because their isn't a fix forit. Anyway, I'm rethinking my firewall again. Think I might look intoNorton and compare.Life with a computer! You can't live with them and you can't livewithout them!! Haven't I heard that line someplace before?? :>)SallyIf you do not wish to belong to shydrager, you may unsubscribe by sending a blank email to shydrager-unsubscribe

Guest guest
Hi Gang, As long as we're comparing notes on computer problems, let me throw in my two cents. I have just about recovered from a 2 to 3 week computer mess. My computer had been running slowly and then, although I was able to get mail on AOL, I couldn't access the internet. I ran every scan I could think of (I have had both Norton anti-virus and internet security running all along) and nothing showed up. I did find a HUGE file in the URL cache folder of AIM95 (Instant Messenger)with about 20,000 items, which I deleted. The computer was so broken that I actually called in a consultant, who couldn't find the problem either. I ultimately reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled all my software. Fortunately I'm very disciplined about backing things us, so other than some things in my AOL personal filing cabinet, I didn't lose anything. I still don't know what happened, although I suspect it was a worm (not yet discovered by Norton) that got into my computer through Instant Messenger. Whatever it was it was UGLY. The moral of the story? BUY THE PROTECTION AND USE IT. But even that is not a guarantee. I've given up on AOL too, and just installed verizon dsl, which is so much better that I can't beleive I waited this long to graduate to " real " internet access. That's my tale of woe. I agree with Sally -- can't live with 'em or without 'em! Carol & Rob Lexington, MA > I have Zone Alarm which is free program, and I just upgraded to the Preminum > Package over a year ago.
