Hey Donna. I will reply and then you can see if it works for you. lol.

I think you can really try either one first. We started with

Peptizyde because casein was a problem so that is what I was most

interested in. Some like to start with the Pep because of the

gluten/casein issues. However, if you want to start with overall

digestion and gut healing, the Zyme Prime would be a good way to go

too. The Zyme has less protease and so is " easier " on the gut if you

think there is any gastritis or inflammation. Then add the Peptizyde

slowly. Stay on one at least a week before adding the other. Just so

if there are any withdrawal or other effects you can spot them early.

I just started with a whole capsule. However you can always start

with 1/2 capsule and see how it goes too (don't you love how iffy I

am being?). There just isn't a set " right " way or " wrong " way to do

this. How about 1/2 capsule for lunch and then 1/2 for dinner for a

couple days. Then increase to a full capsule and other meals if that

goes well.

>>I've heard it takes time for the body to digest them so I'm

wondering if it's okay to eat with meals or before, or do I have to

open them and mix with food or what?

If he swallows the capsule you need to allow 25-30 minutes for the

capsule to dissolve in the gut and fully release the enzymes. You can

also open the capsules and mix the contents with any food or drink

and give at the beginning of the meal. The main idea is to make sure

that the enzymes are in contact with the food in the stomach. I will

send you a file on Mixing Suggestions that other parents have used.

You can open the capsule and use part of the enzymes and then just

snap them back together, saving the rest of the enzymes for later.

>>He goes to pre-school...what do I do about snack?

Some of us with kids in school mix the enzymes with a cold drink.

They will last about 4 hours that way. Or there is a recipe for

mixing the enzymes in choc chip wafer that he can eat right before

snacks. If the teachers are agreeable, you can just have them give

him the enzymes either 30 minutes before the snack if swallowing

capsules, or mix them with food or drink and have at the beginning of

the snack. You may want to just skip the enzymes at snack time until

you are more settled with giving enzymes. Since your son is not

gluten free, be prepared for some withdrawal symptoms in the very

beginning (negative behavior). Not everyone sees this, but it is

possible.

>>How long before I should see results?

According to the record of parents on this board, 50% of people see

results in the first week (with many being the first day). 80% see

results by the second week, and you definitely should see something

by the third week. Enzymes are a relatively quick and inexpensive

thing to try.

Enzymes are dosed by the food type and amount for the person, and not

age or weight.

>>Supplements he takes are cod liver oil (1 gel cap/day), flax seed

oil (1 tsp./day) and Nu Thera (two capsules per day). The only one

where I can say almost definitely made a difference is Nu Thera.

A heads-up here. Some parents have seen hyperactive or negative

behavior with the flax seed oil. Also, once you start enzymes, you

may need to decrease the NuThera. Because you get more nutrition from

FOOD, you may not need as many supplements. But don't stop it unless

it becomes a problem. Sometimes the high B supplements need to be

reduced with enzymes. I will send you some more files on what to

expect. Good luck. Please post how it goes.

, thank you, you are a lifesaver. I was so befuddled and still

am, but much less so.

A couple more questions if you don't mind. Re: school. If I put the

enzymes in his drink, do I have to tell the school about it? I mean,

I guess I should because they will want to know WHY it's so important

I send his drink and that he drink it since they have drinks there.

But will they accept that as my having given him the enzyme or will

they insist on giving it themselves? It's not that big of a deal

either way but I'm trying to minimize the hassles especially of

having to pull him out of class and so on. My dh is especially

concerned about him having to " pop pills " and being different from

the other kids as a result. So if we put it in his juice, that's one

less issue.

I also recall reading about how some people put the contents of the

enzymes in another type of capsule that dissolves faster. Is this a

viable option (though I can't imagine how you'd get the contents in a

tiny capsule without losing a lot of it and I'm a major klutz)?

Anyway, I think I will start this week in small doses and work up to

full doses (all meals) over the holidays. Are we likely to see

results if he is having non-gf/cf snacks at school and not getting an

enzyme or do we have to be fully " on board " before seeing changes?

Thanks again...sorry so many questions.

Donna
