Guest guest
>>My doctor has just recommended I switch to Prozac weekly<< ~~ Why? This topic hasn't come up before that I can remember but I can't imagine a weekly med working for us. Prozac is one of the few psyche med's that comes in a daily " liquid " form that would seem to me we would get the right dose and be more accurate in keeping our serotonin levels good with. The med I take is in pill form and I've had to double the dose since surgery to get the 'same' results -- I can't imagine, unless it were a patch or something that we would " absorb " and be able to contain a long acting drug... I could be very wrong but I don't see how we could. IMO (based on nothing....lol) except my own experience -- changing up medications is never a preferred route if what your using works already -- the.... don't fix it unless it is broke... and on psyche medications I would have more of a tendency to go to a sub-lingual or a daily liquid rather than attempting a long acting anything... maybe if it were in shot form? Like B-12 injections -- but, even with those their are " high " and " low " times between injections and with psyche medications the " high and lows " are what we want to avoid right? Doesn't make sense to me to try this route... but, if you do decide to -- please report back and let us know how it does / doesn't work -- I think this is the first time this topic has been brought up... at least in my memory. hugz, ~denise

Guest guest
My primary doc tried to give me the weekly ones also, but when I reminded her about my surgery, she quickly said, oh no, that wouldn't work for you then. We don't do well with time released anything. Chrissie ----- Original Message ----- From: jeanne68359 My doctor has just recommended I switch to Prozac weekly instead of taking it daily. I have searched our archives to no avail, so I am hoping someone might have had some experience with this or else an opinion based on your experience with other LA meds. I am aware of the probable decreased absorption of any medications taken (I am a medial RNY'er), but was wondering specifically about this medication. I sure don't want my serotonin level to get in the basement again!
