Hi everyone,

Just thought I would share this with you. I spent the last couple of

weeks with various doctors at the Mayo Clinicfor various reasons....including

my labs.

We discussed the issure of

malabsorption....Calcium....iron....thyroid....diet etc.

They told me to take 7 Calcium Citrate with D per day. This

specifically takes into consideration the Elemental Calcium and my gastric

stapling issue. They told me to continue with my iron tablets for at least 6

months to try to get Ferriton into a more acceptible range. And they are

readjusting my Thyroid again and said that I should try to have my TSH at

about .3 because of the stapling.

So....I then contacted the National Osteoporosous Foundation regarding

the Calcium.....they sent me literature. It says to determine the Elemental

calcium in the specific Calcium that you are taking.....and multiply it to be

at about 1500 mg.

Need to be careful though....some calcium has Magnesium....and 7 of them

might be a problem........so I am staying with Calcium with Vitamin D.

I also met with the Dietician and Nutritionist. They suggested a

program for me that would be healthy and where I should average 1 lb or more

per week. 1600 calories, 53 fats, 160 carbs, 120 protein. They said I could

go down to 1400 calories....but anything less than that would defeat my

purpose and I WOULD PLATEAU and not lose well. (your metabolism slows down)

They also said to eat a little protein with every meal. Eat several meals to

maintain metabolism. Eat brown rice, brown noodles, whole wheat foods, etc.

They also thought the protein drinks that I am using (Proscore) are wonderful

for me....they curb my carb cravings....and supply lean protein....so I

should continue with them....(counting the calories, proteins, carbs, and

fats also)

I am really excited about all of the knowledge that I gained the past

couple of weeks....so...I am starting to enter in Fitday.com......and

starting on Weight Watchers at the same time.......and trying to stay with

low glycemic foods....will let you know how it works!

Take care all.....

Have a great day,

Marcia
