Where did you get this information??

My OBGYN as well as my surgeon know that I am on

orthotrycyclen (birth control).

In the 6 years I have been doing research, and talking

to 100's of people I have never heard this.

I was told that birth control pills were not a

problem.

That is weird to hear you say that no Dr has ever told me that at all. And I

did get pregnant twice while on the pill.. That does make sense but I never

really thought about it.. I am on Depo now only to say I think it makes me gain

weight. But honestly no Dr ever told me that.. Dawn

BULL! I used oral contraceptive for the entire first year post op and it was

only after stopping the pill that I became pregnant. It may not work for

everyone post op but it worked for me and several others that I know. It may

depend on how much you are bypassed (I am a medial bypass) and therefore may

not work for distals or BPD/DS however saying it does not work for everyone

is negligent. It has also worked for several on the ossg-pregnant list when

they wanted to prevent pregnancy. It is not malpractice or negligent to tell

patients they have the option of using oral contraceptive. Who is the " they "

you refer to in saying " they know it doesnt' work for us. " Some surgeons are

more conservative and tell their patients to use two forms of birth control

but there are also other surgeons who dont even broach the subject at all.

And some say use one. The only form of birth control that doesn't work for

us is the diaphragm and that is because it needs adjusted after every 10

pound lost. Even Natural family planning -- if you are schooled and educated

about this process -- can work AFTER your cycles have regulated. So it is

not something to attempt in the first few months after surgery.

Uhh, not so fast! My surgeon, OB/GYN, and PCP all know I'm on the

pill and say that it is fine. And the fact that I haven't gotten

pregnant in the last year since having surgery is pretty good proof!
