Guest guest
Self Magazine [july issue] has an interesting article on High and Moderate Protein diets. of course they explain how atkins got the bad rap with too much red meat and potential heart disease issues. they then site three studies that were just conducted in the last year at major university teaching hospitals were proteins like chicken, cottage cheese and yogurt were used rather than red meat in what they call a moderate protein diet and the results showed that especially for women weight loss of fat vs. muscle was dramatically higher. overall weight loss was better with a 30% protein diet vs. the usual 15%protein/high carb diet. its a very convincing article and although I won't be gulping down cottage cheese or yogurt I think it simply proves that the more protein supplements we do the better our weight loss and weight control during maintenance. i believe the figure they used was 135mg. of protein for 150lb. person - but don't quote me on that one. the protein was definitely 135 a day though. the article might still be on their website but the aug. issue of the mag. is already out. sue
