Guest guest
Hi all, Laudanum is NOT recommended for MSA patients!!!!!! It is an opiate which can cause low BP, convulsions, slow heartbeat and other side effects that are not good for MSA patients. Be SURE to check with your doctor before taking anything like this. Unfortunately Plantago psyllium may also cause hypotension, so be extremely careful with using it. I had to stop using Metamucil some time ago as it was causing deposits in renal tubules and flatulence. You must also drink at least 8 oz of water with those seeds as they can cause other problems. There are better anti diarrehea medicines on the market, please check with your doctor before using things like this. Take care, Bill Werre
Guest guest
Hi Bill Hopefully people always check with their doctor before starting new medicine! Your warning made me think a bit about medicine, side effects and quality of life. Of course it's stupid to take medicine that will make MSA and MSA symptoms worse. However I do feel that there are times when the symptoms you try to get rid of are worse than the side effects! My mother is bedbound, wearing diapers, totally paralysed, without language, PEG etc but with a mind that's working ok. We are trying to make what we think are her last days/weeks/months(who knows) as comfortable as possible. This does not include diarreha and the constant fussing about with her body!!! Other kinds of medication HAS been tried but to no avail. If any of the medicine she is given slows down her heartbeat, we will have to deal with that!! I do realize of course that MSA has many stages and that you make different decisions for different people in different situations. As I see it all medicine has side effects. What you have to decide on is what's worse: the symptoms or the side effects in any given situation. Krista Lauridsen, Denmark > Hi all, > > Laudanum is NOT recommended for MSA patients!!!!!!
