I need some assistance.  RNY Sept 99 - 55 years old.  Just found out staple

disruption and I'm very upset.  Would you know if this is a common thing?

Unfortunately, there are a percentage of folks who will have a SLD. If it

were to happen to me, I would get it fixed immediately, before I regained my

weight!

I do not recall the % numbers that were told to me as a pre-op, but it was in

there...right along with 1 in 200 " die " and leaks and blood clots and other

potential risks.

Good luck to her, wish her well....

Unfortunately, for those with non-transected stomachs, it can and does happen

occasionally. I found out about my SLD about 6 months after my open RNY on

8/99

.. A year later, after having to change insurance cos., I had a lap

transection with Dr. Gagner in NYC. I considered it a royal pain in the

patootie, as I hadn't planned on another surgery until plastics time, but I

lost the weight I had gained, and all is well now. Yes, it involves another

surgery, but it can be remedied. BTW, I'm now 50 years old.

Good luck,

in NJ
