Guest guest
Newbie to some...familiar from AMOS to others! I am 17 months out open RNY and have lost 133 pounds yahoooo!!! Highest weight ever was 322, surgery day, 298, current 165 and ....stuck. I know why I'm stuck, it's the carbs, sf cookies and crackers...so it's up to me to get things moving again. I hope with a little encouragement from you all, I can do this!!! I drink my protein shake daily...proscore 100 or problend 55...but I still doubt it's benefits sometimes when I get caught up in the calorie thing. I walk 3 1/2 miles 5 times a week, love my walks but, want to get started doing some weight training at the gym. I'm so glad to have found you all, thanks for posting the addy on the Q&A board at AMOS. (((hugs))) and smiles =)))
Guest guest
>>>I drink my protein shake daily...ProScore 100 or ProBlend 55...but I still doubt it's benefits sometimes when I get caught up <<< Dear Deb, I gotta tell ya' -- and everyone is different -- but if I only drank one protein or even only 3 protein shakes a day I would NEVER have reached goal and I would never be able to maintain goal. The ONLY way I have of actually getting a hold of being in control of my own food choices, choosing healthy and both quantity and content of my meals is by using my protein shakes to " control " the rest of my diet (and I don't mean diet in the pre-op sense of the word.) I use a protein shake before I eat anything and vitamins go with a protein shake and a protein shake goes with vitamins -- once that NECESSARY part is done I make choices about food. (Iron supplement and protein shakes don't go together.) Anyway, once I get all the parts done for my major health part then I can choose foods wisely. At least 99% of the time I can keep a handle on things doing it this way -- I still slip and screw up and have bad days but far fewer and when I do I KNOW what the plan of action is to get back on track the next day. For the last 2 days I've pigged out in a bad way -- both days have a big red mark on my calendar (bad bad days of food choices.) Today, I begin with a shake, then another and THEN I made a choice for breakfast food (no donuts today!!! ;-)) Today I can choose 1/2 slice of high fiber toast and a boiled egg and NOT be bothered with the hungries or the desires for low end carb foods, sweets and generally bad choices. And when I finish typing this (since I had to think about food again here ~smile~) I'll go fix another shake while I decide if I want a snack of fruit or if I'd rather wait till later for a snack... because if I have my protein " I'M IN CHARGE of the choices... without it... I don't stand a chance... " But, that's just me... works for me so I use it as an effective tool to maintain my weight and my health. I'm sure you'll find something too -- lots of good information and support here -- welcome. hugz, ~denise
