Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Well, I finally decided to find a different doctor who would run additional thyroid testing for me. I am just furious! My present pcp refused to run anything other than a TSH test. I begged her to and she refused, saying that the TSH level was all that I needed to have done and that she needed to drop my dosage again! (they changed the brand of pill when I moved here and they have continually dropped my dosage for the last 7 years (from .250 to .150 and dropping)! With symptoms all of this time of constant weight gain, hair falling out, cold all the time, tired every day after about noon, and on and on...their response was " your TSH is low....we need to drop your thyroid meds again!....dahhh .....thus weight gain and symptoms! So, when she refused to run more thyroid tests a few weeks ago....and because I am working so hard to lose more weight and the scale is not co-operating.....I finally found an internist in the cities who offices with an Endicrinologist...(couldn't see the Endo until February)..... He ran extra Thyroid tests.......My T-3 is only 54 (should be 80-200) !!!!!! All that has been treated for the last 7 years is my T-4...(when some rinky dink doctor changed my brand of med 7 years ago.....the new brand only treated T-4 and not T-3....the old brand treated both T-4 and T-3!!!!!!!) So for the last 7 years....this is one of the reasons that I have continually gained weight and have had all of these symptoms!! So, yesterday I started on a new thyroid med that treats T-3 and he will be re-testing in 3 weeks to tweek the T-4 and T-3 dosages! So everyone......get copies of all of your labs.....and follow them....especially when you change Clinics.....we really need to be more knowledgeable about what the doctors are doing! Now I need to work on this new doctor to try to get him to run all of the other tests that this group has been recommending!! (It was because of this group that I had my present Pcp run Ferriton.....and found out it was only 18 (s/b 25-400) .....probably hadn't been run in over 7yrs!! ~Hugs~, ~Marcia~
Guest guest
I had been tested for thyroids so many times too. Got to my preop tests for the VBG, they saw a shadow on the preop xray and totally freaked me out. Turns out my thyroid was so big it was blocking my esophagus and I had to have thyroidectomy before I could have the VBG. Docs ... nuff said. ===== judy in austin 5'9 " of wild Texas redhead SRVG 5/99 380 lbs Ext.
