My husband has vision problems that they say are related to MSA. He

has double vision caused by muscle imbalance in his eyes. He has

verticle double vision when looking at a distance and horizontal when

reading. He has tried prisms in his glasses but they don't seem to

work very well. He was already in a wheelchair when this began, I

can only imagine what a problem this would be were he still able to

walk.

Greetings Jan and Jerry!

You noted of Jan:

COOL! Err. Well, sorry Jerry has this problem.

But I finally found someone else with a similar double vision problem.

All the doctors tell me what I see is impossible to occur. Come and

live in my head, I tell them.

The way I describe it is that I see a ghost of EVERYTHING above and

below (but not left and right). Sounds odd. It is. Messes up my

vision in a big way.

Thanks for sharing J&J !!

Greetings back to you -

When I mentioned your Ghosts to Jerry he agreed that you both are

experiencing the same phenomenon. An exorcism may be in order.

However, I imagine the ghosts would simply return. Do your ghosts

take off when you read? Jerry's ghosts seem to like printed material

as well. They have not figured out a way to ruin a good book on tape.

Glad we could give some credence to your problem.

(AZ has several ghost towns do you think that's the problem?

J, J & J,

Rob's vision is haunted too, but only sometimes. He has

described " paragraphs overlaping " when he reads, which sounds like

your " ghosts " . Now that he has glasses that correct for one eye

being nearsighted and one being farsighted, that doesn't happen very

often -- only sometimes when he's tired.

Lousy disease!

Vsually I have different dillemas on different days and

often a whole assortment'

1. I see vague shadow spots (look like stains), in the beginning I would

spend hours trying to remove these imaginary stains from the rug or floor

- until someone stops me - mostly indoor artificial light

2. Often perceive shadows as solid, gives me one heck of a startle,

happens day or night

3. while walking only the centre of vision is in focus

4. I use reading glasses when I am tired (stronger to weaker depends on

the day), some days it all jumbles and then I cannot read

5. if I have time and peace to concentrate I can read almost

anything without glasses as long as it is one small read (pricetag,

address on an envelope)

6. I get severely motion sick while watching things that move, or if I'm

turning around or rocking

7. I incorectly interpret what I am seeing (have learned to doublecheck

everything, especially if about to step of a curb) - standout moment was

falling off the curb into the side of a moving bus

8. some days all colour is drained out of what I see, and everything is

dimmer

9. blue and green are the easiest and most pleasant colous, yellow and

red are very dull, I paint very differently than I used to

10. depth perception is pretty much gone, I navigate by grid patters at

home and in my very familiar neighbourhood, so as not to look like a

fool, I check curbs with my foot, step lightly, reach gingerly before

grabbing, and till I have dropped knives on my foot thinking it was being

put on the counter - the checkboards all over the house (tiles and such)

really have helped, at my sister's I sit like a potted plant because the

decor is neutral and there are no sharp lines to guide me

Most days I pass the drunk test fairly well, other days I have to stay

home, using a wheelchair is not a possibility.
