Rumor has it, that many post ops switch addictions and wind up in AA. I have

only heard it on the boards from people who have actually had it happen to

them. Of course, there is also the empty calories and the diuretic effect of

beer. Fay Bayuk 300/183 10/23/01

Hi.

Barb B. post-op since 6-20-01, maintaining at 144 pounds....

IMHO, yes, it is VERY bad to have two beers every night.

After not having sugar for over one year, I made the big mistake of

introducing that poison back into my body. Alcohol never was an issue with

me. SUGAR, pre-op, never was an issue for me...well...we moved to Las Vegas.

Free Drinks here. Ok. What the heck, a few 's on the rocks a few

glasses of wine....doing this almost every day...then while out, starting in

with ...uh...the desserts, more sugar!

Let me tell ya! I am SO SUGAR ADDICTED...and fight it, like NEVER before!

Is it my RNY?

What?

I dunno....but, I am going back to maintaining a sugar-free life.

It started the day after Halloween....so far, so good.

Do yourself a favor!

DON'T GO THERE!

Peace in recover,

Barb B.

Well, I'll give you my take on this, too. First of all, everyone

that already answered you is completely and absolutely correct. That

said, I like to drink occasionally, too, and I just won't give that

up...not yet, anyhow. I am single and go often go out, either to

dinner or happy hour, often once or twice a week, depending on

schedules, and this always involves a drink or 2 or 3. But, I think

what the others have stated also has to do with your question about

having a beer or 2 every night, rather than occasionally. Some non-

drinkers will see no difference in these lifestyles, but I see a

world of difference. Now, that doesn't mean that 1 or 2 beers a

night will necessarily escalate to uncontrollable alcoholism, but,

IMHO, it would certainly qualify you as an habitual drinker, just as

I am an habitual coffee drinker (can't do without my 2 cups of high

test in the AM). So, aside from the caloric intake, as a pre-op,

were you able to have just 1-2 beers a night? Can you do that now?

Only you know the answer.

Sounds to me like you are more into the buzz than the beer itself. I'd look

for a cross addiction here. Fay is correct. You are sabotaging yourself if

you think you can do 2 beers a night...how are your liver enzymes? Most of

us have high ones..and can't afford to drink at all. Take care of yourself~
